Wigan and District Football Club moved into the Frog Lane ground in 1877 after leaving their first ground at
Folly Field. The ground was the home of Wigan Cricket club and was occupied by the rugby club until 1879. However it is likely that Wigan and District did not fulfil its fixtures in 1877 and was finally dissolved at the end of the 1879 cricket season. A new club Wigan Wasps was formed and left the ground to return to
Folly Field off Upper Dicconson Street.
