Wigan Wasps Football Club spent a single season playing their home matches at Springfield Park before departing in 1902 for their custom built new home at
Central Park. The rugby team's
first match at the ground was against Morecambe on September 14th, and they won 12-0.
After the departure of the rugby team, the ground later went on to become home to Wigan Athletic FC for many years.
