Re: Why we will be worse off through Brexit (Question from other forum)

It was surreal wasn't it?

I cannot remember a Government being so far out of touch.

And who is the opposition? Corbyn would be a total disaster for the country. Far, far worse than any Brexit outcome.

How have we got to this state?

Re: Why we will be worse off through Brexit (Question from other forum)

Well I won't post some link to a left wing thinktank

Instead, this site is about as fair as I have seen (and for other facts too) on the internet.

The graphs pretty much support my argument.

Re: Why we will be worse off through Brexit (Question from other forum)

Dave O, I'm not going to copy, paste and quote, (in light of the new guidelines :) )

But you are confusing Poverty with Inequality.

By your definition, if the UK suddenly got to a position where the average salary in todays terms was £1m a year, you would claim those on £100k were in "Poverty".

Re: Why we will be worse off through Brexit (Question from other forum)

It’s typical of this buffoonery led government that it would continue with the failure that is universal credit, that it was even implicated at all is for the Tory to answer. I’m 53 and this is by far the most inept government of any colour I’ve seen I agree it's inept but can't you remember 1978?

Re: Why we will be worse off through Brexit (Question from other forum)

Of course, if poverty is defined as a percentage of average earnings, it cannot be 'eliminated'. But that is disingenuous. As noted upthread, the rise in the use of food-banks tells you all you need to know. No, it tells us some of what we need to know. Namely that more people are taking advantage ...

Re: Why we will be worse off through Brexit (Question from other forum)

Poverty? By what criteria? Compared to 100 years ago there is no poverty in the UK. No-one dying through lack of food, which is not something that you could say back then. That was real poverty. Real Poverty in the UK today is non existant. Hardship and inequality? Absolutely. That said, is inequali...

Re: Why we will be worse off through Brexit (Question from other forum)

Just one more general point on 'sovereignty'. Every single time a government (any govt) signs any international treaty, whether it's a FTA trade deal, or membership of the EU, or even NATO, they sacrifice some sovereignty. This is true but the standard argument from the few Brexiteers that acknowle...
