Re: Rugby League Dead....

Going back to semi pro would be fraught with problems. What are you going to do? Ban clubs from paying players enough for them to be full time? That would be the ultimate irony with RL banning such payments to players in a similar way to how RU was supposedly amateur. It would be back to none-jobs ...

Re: Rugby League Dead....

Why see the possible return to part-time squads as a negative move? In my view the game entered a cul-de-sac by selling out to the TV money, and Super League has now run its course. I call reversing out of a cul-de-sac a progressive move if it's handled the right way. That is returning to a two divi...

Re: Lam Out!

If what appears inevitable happens and we get a replacement coach, I wouldn't be getting carried away thinking all the problems will be resolved. There are deeper problems with the club management which will not go away. First is the lack of ambition in player recruitment, where there is too much re...

Re: Recruitment

In Graham Lowe and John Monie's time, players showing bad discipline or deviating from the game plan would find themselves promptly substituted and facing a spell in the reserves. Of course now the coach can't do that because there are no reserves, players get complacent and there is no deterrent to...

Who said he's out for 5 months? BBC website says 4 to 6 weeks.

Re: Canberra Raiders 'don't want to lose' homesick George Williams

We still need a replacement for Hastings though. And it's far from clear that Harry Smith will make the finished article.

I think we need an experienced playmaker with a good short and long kicking game, and yes I do think Blake Austin fits that role better than George.

Re: 21-man squad v Hull FC

Disappointing thing for me was neither coach nor certain players seem able to learn from their mistakes. That performance was a carbon copy of last year against Leeds. Where was the game plan to counter the obvious threat from a bigger pack once again? Smithies made a crucial contribution to the gra...

Re: Clubb suspended

Looking at this a little deeper, I do think there is a widespread problem of sledging having become an established feature in professional sports. Generally sledging amounts to targeting real or perceived personal weaknesses in your opponent and playing on it with a view to psychologically undermini...

I agree with Medlocke.

I can't think of any player who came back from a spell down under and was even the same as when he left let alone better. It's like the NRL takes something out of them.

Better to look at somebody new. Are we not interested in Blake Austin?

Re: Grand Final 21-man squad

It must have been halfway through the "magnificent eight" period when I stopped having nightmares about the 1971 championship final. After that, they're coming back! I had convinced myself that to have so much bad luck in the biggest game of all must be a once in a lifetime occurrence. But...
