Tomkins on Top

Post by josie andrews »

Logan Tomkins came out on top in the battle of the loanees at the AJ Bell Stadium this weekend.

Tomkins, on-loan at Salford until the end of the season came up against James Greenwood, on-loan at Hull KR, also until the end of the season. Tomkins' Red Devils came from 18-4 behind at half-time to run out 31-18 winners.

The win leaves Salford with a fighting chance of making the Super 8s. Hull KR face a crunch Derby match with Hull FC on Friday evening, a win for Rovers could see them leapfrog the Black and Whites, a defeat would all but confirm their place in the Qualifiers competition.

Jack Hughes started at second-row for Huddersfield as the Giants went down to a 35-34 defeat to St Helens. Huddersfield now sit in fourth, three points behind Wigan in third.

In the Championship, Iain Thornley was amongst the scorers as Workington beat rivals Whitehaven in the Cumbrian Derby. Thornley, playing in his third game since coming back from a knee injury crossed in 53rd minute as Workington ran out 28-6 winners to move Town up into 9th place and just a point behind Haven. Jamie Doran, Lewis Tierney and Ryan Sutton all played their part in an impressive performance.

Rob Lever started at Loose Forward as Swinton ran riot at Oxford. The Lions ran in 17 tries in a comprehensive 96-4 victory.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
