WIGAN AND HULL SET TO FACE SOUTH SYDNEY AND ST GEORGE IN AUSTRALIA

Post by josie andrews »

The Australian Daily Telegraph have reported that plans are well in advance for a NRL-Super League pre-season double header next year.

They expect the two exhibition matches, which will see Souths face Wigan and St George entertain Hull, to attract a crowd of at least 40,000 at ANZ Stadium.

A gap in the calendar has opened up with the Auckland Nines and All stars events both suspended, with the NRL not contributing financially to the planned double header.

It will come at a time when fans will be desperate to see some Rugby League following the post-World Cup break and would kick off the season in style.

Should the double header go ahead, it would put the future of the World Club Series in doubt with Wigan officials recently in Sydney to discuss the match against Souths.

The rumoured agreement is that both sides will field their strongest possible line-ups in order to attract fans and make it a real spectacle.

Both the Rabbitohs and Dragons have a contingent of English players, with Bunnies CEO Blake Solly the former general manager of Super League.

that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

If they play like they are playing at the moment they will get laughed off the park.

Surely a pre-season game against St Pats would be more on their level?

The Bunnies aren't all that, and a good Wigan side would certainly give them a game in my view.

Personally I'd like to see the internationals at the end of the season replaced with a world club challenge top 4 U.K. Vs top 4 aus

It'd make more sense to have the WCC games at seasons end.

Have we written off playing in the WCC?

I suggest we leave it alone,it's only a fund raiser for the NRL who pulled out of the nines and the all star games and now have an empty spot to fill. They were never so keen on the WCC.

I was told that only Wigan and Hull are willing to entertain this. Hence why both clubs have been nominated for these matches
