Wigan Warriors forward speaks of ‘heart break’ after being forced to retire

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan first-team squad player Macauley Davies says he is ‘heart broken’ after being forced to retire on medical grounds.

The discovery of a pre-existing brain condition has prompted him to hang up his boots, aged just 22.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

What a shame. Good job they discovered this now as if they hadn’t, things could of been worse.
Also when I first saw the headline on sky sports “Davies forced to retire”, thought it was Tom!!
I thought for gawd sake our wingers are cursed

So do I. I am sure it was a very difficult decision to make for a young lad but he seems very sensible and his health and well-being are the most important things. It would be nice if he could still have some involvement in the game. Good luck for the future.
