Catch up with Wigan’s Tony Clubb in preparation for 2019

Prop forwards discusses Adrian Lam, last week’s Red Bull Camp and more

“We’re in a good place.” - Clubb

Tony Clubb admits Wigan Warriors are in ‘a good place’ as Adrian Lam’s side continue their 2019 preparations in pre-season.

The prop forward believes the squad are training hard and is feeling positive ahead of the new campaign.

Clubb said: “We’re in a good place. We’re running well and Lammy (Adrian Lam) has set us all some PB’s (Personal Best’s). The boys are in good shape and everyone is lifting heavier weights and running better so it’s going to be a good year for us.

“We’ve changed a few things from last year, but nothing too drastic, just some calls and things like that. Once the international boys get back into it after the Christmas period it’s going to be good.

“The goal evidently is to do it again and that’s what we want to achieve. I can’t wait to get into it now.”

The Wigan squad took part in a four-day Red Bull camp in Milton Keynes last week in a bid to test physical strength.

Clubb revealed he enjoyed the experience: “It’s about getting everyone fit and strong. We had a tough week being away in camp, but we enjoyed it and it’s what gets you through tough games.

“The Farm Fitness was really good. I really enjoyed it and it’s something a bit different. We knew we were going to a race track on the second day, but we didn’t realise we would be running around it! It was tough but it’s what you need in pre-season and it brings us all together.

“Everyone wants to compete and do well for their individual team but at the end of it we are all a team. It was a good experience and Red Bull were class with us again.”

Clubb also commented on the npower Community Blitz, as the Wigan Club helped people across the borough in a 12-hour blitz on Monday.

“A lot of fans pay a lot of money to come and see us and it’s about giving back to them, as we appreciate their support.

“We’re fortunate that we have a roof over our head and some people don’t have such luxury so to give just a little bit back to the Wigan community is fantastic and everyone has dug in.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
