In Memoriam: Kia Bose

Everyone at Wigan Warriors are saddened to hear of the passing of ex-player and the regular attendee of the Community Foundation’s Rugby Memories sessions, Kia Bose aged 82.
Born in Fiji, Bose travelled over to the North of England in 1963 to follow his Rugby League Dream. Pictured below is Kia Bose on his first day at Wigan’s Central Park. That day the bitterly cold weather had entirely frozen over the pitch, something which Kia had never experienced in his life before this moment was captured.

While he only went on to make one official appearance for the Cherry and Whites, he would continue his career playing for Blackpool along with other ex-Wiganer such as Ray Ashby.

In more recent times Kia Bose became a regular attendee of Rugby Memories, a social program run by Wigan Warriors Community Trust which brings the local community together to share their memories of Wigan’s past.

Claire Taylor, Health and Wellness Manager at Wigan Warriors Community Trust – “Kia and his wife Linda have been coming to the rugby memories sessions for the past year and are both very popular members of the group. Linda brought Kia along because since being diagnosed with dementia, he was losing interest in socialising and found it was difficult to persuade him to go out.

“Linda said that after his first visit to the group he couldn’t stop talking about it. Kia will be sorely missed by the group, especially Ray Ashby and Brian Larkin, fellow past players of Wigan Rugby League, who enjoyed reminiscing with him about their playing days. It was great to know Kia took so much from the group and that he looked forward to attending we will all miss his beautiful smile.”

His funeral will take place on Thursday 7th February, 12pm at St Pauls, Goose Green. The Club would like to send their sincere condolences to his family and friends.
