Last time the two sides met at the DW Stadium, Wigan edged it in a 14-12 victory back in September 2018 with tries from Gabe Hamlin, Dan Sarginson and Oliver Gildart proving to be the difference.

Wigan Head Coach Adrian Lam said on facing Hull FC, “This game is going to be as tough as the World Club Challenge. They are a team who are desperate to win and desperate teams do desperate things.” (Watch his full match preview on Wigan TV HERE).

On rotating his squad – “Yes I’m looking forward to shuffling a little bit in the next three to four weeks.”

In injury news, it was confirmed earlier this week that Liam Farrell is likely to miss the next four months following a pectoral tear he sustained during last Sunday’s World Club Challenge. Learn more HERE.

Tony Clubb is rested to aid recovery of a mouth injury sustained in Round 1. Recent signing Jarrod Sammut and youngster Liam Byrne are brought into the squad for the first time in 2019 and would make their debuts if selected in the 17 on Sunday.

Lam also gave an update on Dom Manfredi’s recovery from a knee injury – “We will see how he is over the next two weeks. He will probably not play at London due to the pitch there.”

Joe Burgess remains on the comeback trail from a knee injury picked up (ACL) in April 2018.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Gareth Ellis named in Hull squad for Wigan clash

Gareth Ellis, who retired at the end of 2017, has been called out of retirement by Hull FC head coach Lee Radford after featuring for their reserves last week.

As well as calling up Ellis, 37, Radford also calls upon new signing Ratu Naulago who recently completed a trial with the club, signing a one-year deal.

The Black and Whites are without nine senior players prompting them to name Ellis in the squad.

“We’re in a unique situation with regards our middles, we’ve now lost our first, second and third choice in terms of numbers in our go forward,” said Radford.

Gaz will hopefully come in and help us in that department.

“I’ve no doubt some of the blokes around him will be glad to see him pull on the jersey again, I thought last week he showed some of the qualities that only he possesses on the field against Wakefield.”

Meanwhile, Wigan Warriors see Liam Farrell and Tony Clubb drop out of their squad that played in the World Club Challenge with new signing Jarrod Sammut and youngster Liam Byrne coming into the squad.

Warriors squad: Joe Bullock, Liam Byrne, Tom Davies, Morgan Escaré, Ben Flower, Oliver Gildart, Joe Greenwood, Gabe Hamlin, Zak Hardaker, Willie Isa, Tommy Leuluai, Liam Marshall, Romain Navarrete, Sean O’Loughlin, Sam Powell, Jarrod Sammut, Dan Sarginson, Taulima Tautai, George Williams.

Hull FC squad: Jamie Shaul, Bureta Faraimo, Carlos Tuimavave, Josh Griffin, Marc Sneyd, Danny Houghton, Dean Hadley, Mark Minichiello, Joe Westerman, Jake Connor, Jordan Thompson, Masi Matongo, Sika Manu, Jordan Lane, Mickey Paea, Danny Langtree, Jez Litten, Ratu Naulago, Gareth Ellis.
