Exiled Wiganer wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 8:10 am We are SL champions. We have won far more in the last decade than anyone bar Leeds. Maybe, just maybe, things aren’t so bad? Even if it takes us a while to adjust to life after Wane - and I lost count of the number of threads posted by those being massively negative about how it’s going this year demanding Wane be sacked - IL and KR have earned our patience and trust.
This sort of start / season has been a long time coming in my opinion given the constant cycle of offloading quality or start 13 players and inferior replacements coming in on most occassions.

I don’t understand those points.
As to a long time coming, we were crowned champions less than 6 months ago. Not Saints, not Wire, Wigan.
As for recruitment, Hardaker and Sammut for Tomkins (looking at what we got out of him over the 3 years we were paying him a fortune) is arguably decent business. Bullock is a step up on Sutton, and Greenwood for Bateman is making the best of a bad job. If we had had Manfredi fit and firing we would have won both the last 2 games.
Meanwhile, we continue to invest in your talent, such as Kibula (who did not look out of place against Toronto), and Harry Smith, possibly the answer to all our prayers in the halves. Plus of course the women’s team do us proud.
I am proud of my team and my club, and believe they deserve patience as they adjust to life Post Wane.

I don't. Bullock is a good player but not a patch on Sutton. Watch last seasons Grand Final and see what he contributed to the team winning. By the way Bullock is a better prop than Clubb, Nav, Hamlin and T.

Hardaker and Sammut for Tomkins decent business? Bullock has done well in a handful of games but better than Sutton? Smith the answer to our prayers, like Hampshire and Williams were? Really? Yes we were crowned champions 6 months ago,a couple of days ago we were beaten by London of all teams. You are as good as your last game and in that game we were a shambles.

So, you would sack every coach and replace every owner after every defeat? Done much in business over the years? What do you think of Smith, having seen him? I would be fascinated to hear your insights into him, Smithies and our other young guns.

Exiled Wiganer I don't think Old Hooker is advocating sacking the manager every single time a team loses a match but it was only 30 years ago Widnes were World Champions after a spectacular thrashing of a start-studded Canberra and they (Widnes) at the time were the team to beat.

The moral is to stop looking at the past or you will soon become a part of it

Winning last season was great as was the challenge cup run we had during the 80's and 90's - all history now

Totally agree with Old Hooker. Bullock has done well considering where he has come from. But Greenwood replaced Joel not Bateman and that is one of the areas IL and KR has let us down we had to get the best possible replacement because the money should have been there. Also losing Sam we lost our general which again he should have been replaced with a quality player but yet again IL and KR failed to deliver. Hardaker is completely a different style of player to Sam to which we are not geared up to exploit because our half backs are useless. On the point of our young guns Kibala looks a good prospect but he needs to build up his stamina. We have some other good forwards with Smithies, Shorrocks Byrne and Kilner,. We are desperate for Smith to be our half back answer but there is nothing in the centres, But to introduce these guys to super league in our present situation would set them back. During the off season we should have been brave enough to get rid of the deadwood even if it meant running with a smaller squad but brought in 2 or 3 proven quality players (Hastings, Hurrell and Merrin for example) and have no doubt we would not be in this mess. But hindsight is a wonderful thing and all we can do is hope we beat Huddersfield on Friday and the get the 2 points back otherwise this could be an embarrassing season.

Totally agree with Warriors01, it was something I was going to mention in my original post, offering bang average players contract extension and eating into the salary cap is another example of mis management at the club.

Quite simply we have gone for quantity over quality but looking at results when our key players aren't playing the backup players aren't up to the level required
