Adrian Lam looks ahead to Wigan’s trip to Wakefield Trinity on Friday night.

Head Coach expecting a tough test at The Mobile Rocket Stadium.

Lam: “They’re in form, they have players there, who at home, are different to when they’re playing away.”
Head Coach, Adrian Lam, says Wigan Warriors must learn from last week’s defeat to Castleford Tigers, as his side travel to Wakefield Trinity on Friday (7:45pm kick-off).

The Cherry and Whites let slip a 20-0 lead to lose 28-38 at the hands of the Tigers and Lam is expecting another similar test from Wakefield at The Mobile Rocket Stadium.

Chris Chester’s team sit fourth in the Betfred Super League and go into Friday night’s Round 10 fixture off the back of two successive wins.

On Wakefield, Lam said: “They’re in form, they have players there, who at home, are different to when they’re playing away.

“They’re winning the close games, and there’s no doubt this will go to the wire and we need to be in a better position (than Castleford) to finish this off.

“David Fifita is up near the top for Man of Steel nominations; he’s a handful and a big body. He’s one we need to contain and put some focus into.”

After it was announced that Dom Manfredi had suffered a season ending Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury at Castleford, Lam spoke about the club providing the winger with all the support it can give him.

He said: “I’ve had the same injury. I’ve had three reconstructions, so emotionally I know how he’s feeling. He’s probably in a bad place.

“We’ll rally around him and make sure he’s not thinking too far into the future. We certainly feel for him.

“He’ll be drained and upset. It’s tough, accepting what’s happening.”

Adding to the Manfredi news, the Wigan squad has been tested with a number of injuries in the past few weeks and Lam hinted at giving more young players a chance to play on Friday night.

He added: “It’s difficult. I think there are only three or four left from the Grand Final side there at the moment, when you consider those who have left, as well as the whole forward pack last week.

“A lot are contact injuries, they’re not preventable. We’ve looked through it but there’s not much we can do about it.

“The depth is certainly being tested. It’s always good when you can pick the same team two weeks in a row to build some cohesion, but we’ve not been able to do that and we’ve got to power on.

“It’ll give one or two young players an opportunity and one or two more may get an opportunity this weekend.”
