Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam previews Friday’s away trip to Leeds Rhinos

Lam: ”It is a really important performance for us.”

Leeds Rhinos vs Wigan Warriors, Betfred Super League, Emerald Headingley, Friday 14th June, K.O. 7:45pm

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam believes Friday’s game against Leeds Rhinos is the ‘most important of the season’ so far, as his side prepare for the Betfred Super League clash at Emerald Headingley Stadium (K.O. 7:45pm).

Reflecting on last weekend’s victory over Hull KR, Lam said: “We ended up getting the victory with a miracle field goal, and sometimes you just need the two points and that’s what we went there to do.

“As a team, we had Liam Farrell back and it felt like a good opportunity to reboot our season. The performance wasn’t ideal but we got the two points.”

With Leeds, Huddersfield Giants, Salford Red Devils and Hull KR as the Warriors next four opponents, the Head Coach explained how important it is to create momentum off the back of last week’s result.

“A couple of teams had good wins, Leeds won, and London won, but that’s not what is inspiring us at the moment. We just want to play well as a group and identify areas that we can improve on.

“The attitude before the game last week was completely different, and that was a really positive sign for us. So, if we can take it forward into the next games we will be ok.”

The Warriors travel to Emerald Headingley Stadium for the first time in 2019 on Friday and the Wigan boss made it clear that his side know how important the game will be.

“I don’t think Wigan have had a good run there in recent years, but it is a really important performance for us.

“We feel that for us to be where we want to be at the end of the year, this game now is the most important game of the season.”

Lam also gave an update on the injuries within the squad ahead of Friday’s game: “There is no (Zak) Hardaker this week; he’s going to miss one or two weeks. There is still no Joe Greenwood or Ben Flower.

“We will obviously bring in some players that can get the job done for us.”

On Wednesday, Wigan forward Taulima Tautai appeared in court on charges of drink-driving. When asked about the situation, Lam explained: “He has appeared in court today. With regards to the Club, we will see that process out today, whatever the outcome is, and will then be followed by an internal discipline process.”

“Everyone at the Club understands that it is not acceptable and this situation will be dealt with accordingly.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage.

If he plays sarg at fullback over Escare i think im done .

Hankinson is needed at second row more than centre (cant believe im saying it)

Leeds must be rather confident as well holding wakefield to 0 is an achievement alone.
