Warriors Women Head Coach Kris Ratcliffe previews Sunday’s Challenge Cup fixture vs St Helens Women.

Ratcliffe says that his side have prepared well ahead of the derby.

Fixture to be played at the Totally Wicked Stadium, and will also be streamed on the Our League app.

Wigan Warriors Women Head Coach Kris Ratcliffe believes his side have prepared well as they look ahead to facing St Helens in the Coral Women’s Challenge Cup on Sunday afternoon (K.O 12pm).

The Cherry and Whites head to local rivals Saints at the Totally Wicked Stadium as they face off for the second time this season, this time in the quarter final of the cup.

On the occasion, Ratcliffe said: “Every derby is a huge game and this one is even bigger with the added importance of a Challenge Cup semi final slot up for grabs.

“Our preparations have gone brilliantly with the team responding really well to the subtle changes we have made over the past few weeks. They’re all eager to get out there and perform. We know we are in for a tough game but if we can stick to our processes, we’re confident we can get the result.”

Wigan will be without a number of regular faces, with ‘injuries and unavailability’ causing squad movement, but Ratcliffe is confident that his team can get through this tough spell.

“Our squad is being put under further pressure at the moment due to injuries and unavailability claiming half a dozen first team regulars. It will be a great test of our strength in depth and character, with that said we do still have an abundance of experience, leadership and some big game players who thrive on this sort of challenge.”

The game, selected for broadcast on the Our League app, is also to be hosted at St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium. On the prospect at playing at another Super League ground, Ratcliffe said: “We’re delighted that such a game has been given a fitting stage.

Well done to Saints for making that possible and we’ll now be pushing for a big crowd to fit the occasion.”

Warriors captain, Gemma Walsh, also noted her side’s hunger ahead of the game: “The team are really looking forward to this tie, not only because it’s a derby but it’s a chance to progress in the cup which is something that we highlighted as an aim at the start of the season.”

She added: “It’s great for Women’s Rugby League that St Helens have backed the occasion and allowed us to play the fixture inside the Totally Wicked Stadium. Hopefully, we can get the fans out in numbers and create a really good atmosphere.”

Tickets will be available on the day for the Challenge Cup clash between St Helens Women and Wigan Women at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday 23rd June, 12pm kick-off. Tickets will be priced at £3 per Adult and £1 per Junior.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
