Why?

To be a marquee player for us since he isn’t home grown, we’d have to want to pay him more than £175k as for non home grown players it’s only after you have paid them £175k does anything above that not count on the cap.

Is he even worth that salary never mind more than that?

Nothing I've seen this year to him him marquee. Yep I'd keep him for sure, but not at such a wage.

Marquee players have to be earning over £175k pa. I'd be astonished if he was anywhere near that amount in his first season. Always thought salaries in general were incremental and therefore end loaded.
More to do with earnings than form I think.
