Zak Hardaker previews Friday night’s Betfred Super League clash with Hull KR.

27-year-old speaks of the positivity within the Wigan Warriors camp after four straight league wins.

Hardaker: “We’ve been in the position where Hull KR are now and a few wins for them would move them clear of relegation so it’s massive for them as it is for us.”

Zak Hardaker says a third place position in the Betfred Super League is capable for Wigan Warriors as they aim for five consecutive wins on Friday night.

The Cherry and Whites host Hull KR at the DW Stadium and victory for Adrian Lam’s side would see them up to fourth and just two points behind third place Hull FC - depending on results elsewhere this weekend.

Hardaker said: “From the start of the season, it’s something we’ve been building towards. The fans are starting to notice the change and things we’ve been saying.

“We’ve been training well since the start of pre-season; it’s just been frustrating that we haven’t been putting the performances in on a consistent basis.

“To get that up and running and have a few wins under our belts, everything is heading in the right direction - we’re aiming for that third place now.

“There’s about five or six teams that are in a dog fight over the play-off positions. We’re in a position where third place is a reality and it’s up to us to use the confidence we have gained over the last few games in the final part of the season.”

Despite sitting second from bottom in the table, the full-back says his team are aware of what they are in for when Hull KR visit the DW Stadium, as the two sides met just four weeks ago where Wigan ran away with a 19-18 win.

“We’ve been in the position where Hull KR are now and a few wins for them would move them clear of relegation, so it’s a massive game for them as it is for us. We’re under no illusions it’s going to be tough, but we’re confident if we play well we will come away with the two points.”

Hardaker has featured in 20 games in his debut season for the Warriors and has grabbed six tries, including one in last week’s triumph over Salford Red Devils.

On reflection of his campaign so far, the 27-year-old admitted he feels more comfortable within the team and the style of play under Lam.

“It took a while for myself to settle into the team, but I’ve really enjoyed the way I have played over the last eight weeks.

“It’s about knowing each other’s jobs and the way I play too with myself being behind everyone when we defend. At this time of the year with the sun being out and a fast track, it suits me down to the ground and everything is looking good.”
