What is it then?
Actually it's right.

The only addition needed, for information, is that you need to earn at least £175,000 to begin with before being made a marquee.

Since Hastings is only our 3rd marquee, we must be able to assume that Lockers is and has always been on less than £175k per year whilst the rule is in place.

Hastings will therefore be our highest paid player next year as of now, earning more than £175k and with £150k being counted on the cap. Since Williams only has £75k counted on the cap, where is the extra £75k coming from ?
Lockers could be on more than £175k and not be a marquee player.
Williams only has £75k counted on the salary cap because he is a designated marquee player, and the rest of his wages will be paid by Wigan but not counted against the salary cap.
If Lockers is on over £175k and not a marquee player then we are stopping ourself from classifying him as a marquee player and releasing a minimum of £100k from the salary cap.

Why wouldn't we make him marquee since the position is available?

Not sure the bit about O'Loughlin will be correct. He will already have some salary cap dispensation due to how long he has been at the club.

The extra £75k could be coming from losing Hamlin, Tautai and Sarginson.
He will get a £5k deduction...

I think going back to a previous era where English clubs signed players from the ARL in their off season and a few of ours went the other way in our off season to suggest that makes it OK to sign players for a season is stretching credibility a bit too far. It's just not the same thing at all. Hastings is going to be our senior half back not someone here for 10 weeks.

Trying to equate it to doing that just makes it seem like there is something less than brilliant about this deal.

We have signed him for two years with a get out clause. It is what it is and I don't think there is any need to make excuses for it. The club was going to lose Williams and its sorted that with arguably a better player. If Hastings does leave after a year we will see what it does about it then.

As I said previously it now needs to look to what it's doing for the no 6 slot, which for some reason some took exception to.

This is just one possible scenario;
Say Lockers on £180k, designate him as marquee only releases £105k of cap space. Hastings as marquee (rather than Lockers), earning more, would free up more cap space. (Obviously would only matter if we had 2 marquee players)

Or don't give lockers another year and bring a good prop and centre in.

Could we not just talk about a top signing and not how the club will pay for him.All signings have to be OK’d by the RFL under the salary cap rules.I thought we all knew that.

That's the way I'd go, except for the center
