Bevan French speaks to Wigan TV after making his debut for Wigan Warriors on Friday night.
23-year-old Australian came off the bench in the second half of Wigan’s 36-18 win over Hull KR at the DW Stadium.
French: “It’s a new experience for me and it’s crazy how passionate the fans are over here and how welcoming they’ve been.”
Bevan French admits he was astonished by how ‘passionate’ the Wigan Warriors fans were at the DW Stadium on Friday night as he made his debut for the Club.
The 23-year-old Australian, who signed from NRL side Parramatta Eels two weeks ago, came off the bench just after the hour mark as the Warriors went on to beat Hull KR 36-18 in the Betfred Super League.
Speaking to Wigan TV after the game, French spoke of his amazement of the atmosphere within the stadium.
“In the NRL, you get the same number of seats and more people, but no way near as loud and as passionate as that. It’s enjoyable to play in front of an atmosphere like that.
“It’s a new experience for me and it’s crazy how passionate the fans are over here and how welcoming they’ve been. I’ve met a few already at The Riversiders and things like that so it’s good to be a part of.”
Wigan scored six tries overall through George Williams, Liam Marshall, Liam Farrell (2), Joe Burgess and Tony Clubb, but as he shared his thoughts on the game, French was honest in what was said in the changing room at full-time for his side to improve on.
“It was a back and forth game, but we managed to run away with it in the last quarter.
“We touched on it in the sheds at full-time – moving forward if we want to be real contenders and take out the Premiership our start is important. At the start of both halves we were off but the positive we can take out of that is that we still managed to be in the game.
“Once those things start to click and we get the starts right in both halves we’ll be good contenders.”
