Rovers try Rugby League in Blackburn

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation coaches were joined by Blackburn Rovers stars Adam Armstrong and Jacob Davenport to offer a taste of rugby league at Blackburn based primary school.

The domestic rugby league season came to an end on Saturday with the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, but over in east Lancashire, RL is just getting going! Adam Armstrong and Jacob Davenport joined Wigan Warriors Community Foundation coach Dec Gregory at Tockholes St Stephen’s Primary School in Blackburn to enjoy a taste of the oval ball game.

Amy Taylor, Head of Primary School Education at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust commented:

The Premier League Primary Stars partner school are one of several local primary schools that are enjoying a chance to try a new sport thanks to our arrangement with one of rugby league’s most iconic clubs”.

Dec Gregory was appointed in September 2019 as Lancashire Rugby League Development officer, with the aim of growing the sport across Lancashire. The role is supported by the Rugby Football League and the Rugby League World Cup’s Legacy programme which is dedicated to improving the environments where Rugby League takes place; giving people more and better opportunities to engage with the game and to get active.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
