Wigan Warriors have signed London Broncos’ academy forward Kai Pearce-Paul on a four year deal.

Pearce-Paul, who hails from Bromley in south-east London, will join up with the Warriors for the 2020 season onwards having impressed the Club’s recruitment team in a string of dominant performances at academy level and as part of the Academy Origin series in which he represented Lancashire.

A rangy back-rower, standing at 6ft 5in, Pearce-Paul will also study at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) whilst with the Club and will be a member of the Warriors senior squad.

Wigan Warriors Executive Director, Kris Radlinski: “We have identified Kai as player for the future and he’ll be joining a very competitive squad where he has seasoned internationals in his position to learn from. In the Academy games against London Broncos last year, he was very difficult to handle and he made us all take notice. We’re excited to see him develop in a Wigan Warriors jersey over the next few years.”

Speaking about his move to the Warriors, Pearce-Paul said: “I can’t wait to get involved. It’ll be a tough challenge, but an enjoyable one and I’m really looking forward to the move. After speaking to Adrian (Lam), Kris (Radlinski) and Matty (Peet) they were all supportive and made me feel very welcome so I knew that the move to Wigan will be the right one for me.”

Im guessing the logic here is Samy Kibula was ready for a first team shot/wages but we loaded up on Burgess and Clarke this is essentially a reset on that player meaning we can pay little again and when he is developed 2-3 years there may be space for him in the first team

if so no problems with that

Well I suppose that is one way of looking at it but I always find it a bit strange when Wigan recruit young players when we are supposed to have the best production line going.

That said if there is an exceptional player out there it would be foolish to pass them up out of stubbornly sticking to players only Wigan produced.

Well I'm glad the club hasn't stopped looking outwards.

you don't get many 6ft 5" youth players though so i think there are exceptions but agree with your point. For me this a replacement for Kibula who unfortunately hit first team readiness in a season where money has been spent on the squad and players like Flower/Clubb/Lockers are still around. Kibula probably couldnt wait another 2-3 years to start playing regular first grade this kid can

Wigan decided not to retain Samy, it has nothing to do with the salary cap.
