Liam Farrell shares his thoughts ahead of Friday’s Betfred Super League Round 2 clash with Castleford Tigers.

Wigan travel to the Mend-A-Hose Jungle off the back of an opening day win over Warrington Wolves last Thursday.

Farrell: “The way Cas (Castleford) play they’re always gonna be a real threat. They’re tricky in what they do.”
Liam Farrell says Wigan Warriors plan to slow their opponents down when they visit the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Friday night.

The Warriors face Castleford Tigers in Round 2 of the Betfred Super League and the second row believes his side must stick to their game plan else they will be punished.

Farrell said: “The way Cas (Castleford) play they’re always gonna be a real threat. They’re tricky in what they do. At their place they try to dominate you, so our aim is to slow them down. If we can do that that it’ll go a long way.”

The 29-year-old commented on the pitch at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle and the dangers it could give to his team.

He said: “You’ve got to be aware of where you are on the field. You could be coming off your own line but before you know it you’re 50 metres out. Cas are really good at it.”

Wigan kicked off the new campaign with a 16-10 victory over Warrington Wolves last Thursday and Farrell says points over performance are important at this stage of the year.

“It’s a great start to the year, even though at times it was scrappy. But sometimes against 12 men it can be tricky and you try to over think things instead of making it simpler. Sometimes we did that and it didn’t pay off with ball control. We had to be patient to grind the game away and we’re off to a pretty good start.”

Farrell also spoke about the star performance from full-back Bevan French, who opened the 2020 season with a try and an assist.

“I spoke to a few people about Bevan - he’s gonna have a real big year. Being at full-back is allowing him to do more things than he could on wing. And that freedom is letting his pace to the work, which is unbelievable.”
