Warriors fans to be located in the East Stand seats

Pre-purchased North Stand tickets will be accepted in the new location

Wigan Warriors supporters heading to the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night will now be located in a different stand to the one that was initially allocated.

Though advance tickets for the away following have been sold on the basis of granting admission to the North Stand (terracing behind the sticks), hosts Salford Red Devils have now opted to move the Wigan gathering to the East Stand (seats on the side opposite the main stand).

Supporters holding North Stand tickets don’t need to take any additional steps to gain admission - simply head to the East Stand turnstiles instead and tickets will be accepted there. Additional signage will be in place to help direct the away support and the stand will operate on an unreserved seating basis.

The travelling Cherry and White faithful have regularly alternated between the North Stand terrace and the East Stand seats in recent visits to the AJ Bell Stadium.

Those planning to join the Warriors faithful under the shadow of the Barton Bridge are advised that tickets have now gone off sale at the DW Stadium Ticket Office, but will be available to purchase (subject to a £2 matchday surcharge) from the ticket windows at the AJ Bell Stadium on the night of the game, where cash and card payments are accepted.

Meanwhile, the club continues to make necessary preparations to guarantee the best possible experience for everyone visiting the DW Stadium and Robin Park Arena in light of the ongoing rise in confirmed COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) cases around the world.

We have several new measures in place across Wigan Warriors facilities and activities to help prevent the spread of the virus and protect the health of our employees.

We have taken proactive measures including cancelling any external events for playing and high-performance staff, suspending players’ physical interaction on a matchday with supporters during their customary pre-match entrance and in their post-match lap of honour, and also with matchday mascots. Furthermore, we are reminding everyone of good hygiene practices through notices in/around our Robin Park Arena site facilities, our office locations and other community facilities that we use regularly. This includes the installation of antibacterial handwash stations in the Arena reception area, which we are now asking all site visitors to use upon arrival.

Executive director, Kris Radlinski, explains: “We would like to thank supporters for their understanding as it takes necessary precautions to care for the health of the playing squad, staff and our supporters.

“We are lucky to have a group of players who understand and value how important our fans are, and we need no reminder to how important they are to us a Club and to the game of rugby league.

“Understandably, we have had to make provisions around coronavirus that have resulted in us making some changes to how we engage with our supporters including on game day, that emphasises the health and wellbeing of our players and staff.”

Covid-19 information

Following this afternoon’s update in Downing Street, the RFL has communicated with all clubs about the position for this weekend’s fixtures and beyond.

For supporters and those involved with the community game, we recognise the situation may also be unsettling or confusing, with a number of high-profile international sporting competitions and fixtures involving British clubs being affected.

The Prime Minister and the Chief Medical Officer have reiterated today that there is no medical rationale for restricting large public events such as sports fixtures – and our programme is therefore due to go ahead as planned this weekend.

The RFL and Super League have again reminded clubs of the importance of sensible hygiene for all those who attend, and especially for players to set the right example in that regard.

The situation is clearly fluid, and we recognise there is likely to be a significant impact on our competitions at some point. We have been considering contingencies, in discussions with DCMS, the clubs and other stakeholders, for some time, and that will continue.

There are also different considerations for teams who have matches or tours scheduled abroad in the coming weeks, and we are seeking further guidance on these points.

For the moment, we hope supporters will feel comfortable in attending matches, and backing their clubs, in challenging times for everyone.
