Postponed until April?

Post by ancientnloyal »

The Rugby Football League and Super League Europe today announce a suspension of fixtures in the Betfred Super League season, initially until 3rd April, during which time the season’s structure and fixture rescheduling will be considered.
This follows the latest Government advice regarding social contact and mass gatherings.

The Super League clubs discussed a range of contingency plans with the RFL at their board meeting in Huddersfield, and the situation will be reviewed with broadcasters and sponsors throughout the initial suspension.

These changes will also apply across other competitions including the Championship, League 1, Betfred Women’s Super League and the community game, with the RFL to have further discussions of the implications at meetings of Championship and League 1 clubs and community board over the next couple of days.

Joint statement from Robert Elstone, the Executive Chairman of Super League Europe, and Ralph Rimmer, CEO of Rugby Football League: “These are unprecedented times, and they present significant financial and commercial implications for Rugby League, which will be further considered during the period of suspension.

“Super League is also an international competition, and consideration has to be given to our clubs in Canada and France, particularly around travel restrictions and scheduling fixtures.

“Player welfare and maintaining the integrity of the competition are key concerns moving forward. Equally our responsibilities to Rugby League communities remain front of mind for all of us.

“The whole country is facing major challenges – and the support of our fans, partners and stakeholders is needed now more than ever before.”

With the social distancing advice a few mins ago, they can't really do anything else I'd say.

Club statement in reaction to suspension

Post by josie andrews »

The Rugby Football League and Super League Europe have suspended all fixtures in Betfred Super League until 3rd April.

This follows the latest Government advice which has banned mass gatherings using emergency workers and to avoid all non-essential contact with others and stopping all unnecessary travel. The Super League clubs discussed a range of contingency plans with the RFL at their board meeting in Huddersfield, and the situation will be reviewed with broadcasters and sponsors through-out the two-week suspension.

These changes will also apply across other competitions including the Championship, League 1, Betfred Women’s Super League and the community game, with the RFL to have further discussions of the implications at meetings of Championship and League 1 clubs and community board over the next couple of days.

Wigan Warriors have already taken a number of measures to help safeguard our supporters, staff and players alike, which has included withdrawing players from community activities and adding additional hygiene provisions.

Reacting to the latest development in an unprecedented run of events, Wigan Warriors Chairman and owner Ian Lenagan commented: “At this time of great uncertainty across the world, our sport’s number one priority has to be the safety and wellbeing of everyone within our communities. We were party to this decision and fully supportive the measures decided.

“Whilst the postponement of a large number of fixtures across the competition will present a logistical challenge like we’ve never seen before, we trust that everyone connected to both Wigan Warriors and Betfred Super League will understand the reasoning behind this stance.

“Suspending the competition will add an element of certainty to our planning in a period that is otherwise filled with uncertainty and we will now take the appropriate steps to internally review all of our daily activities, our financial plans and implement a working schedule that ensures maximum protection for those within the Club and everyone connected to it.

“The support of our loyal fanbase will be crucial in what will be a challenging period for our sport, club and community and we’ll be looking to engage them as much as possible in the upcoming weeks.”

Key facilities such as the Club’s town centre Warriors World store in the Grand Arcade and the DW Stadium Ticket Office will continue to trade as normal until further notice.

Supporters holding individual match tickets for any of the fixtures affected by the postponement of Super League are advised to keep hold of their tickets, which will remain valid for the re-arranged date upon which the match is played. Should any supporters be in need of a refund for tickets held for any of the affected fixtures, please click HERE for details of the refund policies.

Covid-19: Ticket exchanges and refunds

Supporters holding individual match tickets for forthcoming fixtures that have been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak are advised to keep hold of their tickets, which shall remain valid for the new dates assigned to each fixture.

However, should any supporters be in need of an exchange or refund for tickets that they don’t believe that they will be able to use at a future date, the club has agreed a protocol that will be in place at the DW Stadium ticket office.

Home match tickets v Catalans Dragons (Sunday 22nd March)

If you paid for your ticket via credit/debit card, regardless of platform (e.g. online, phone, in person), please email your name, client code and details of the tickets you wish to have refunded or exchanged to ticketoffice@dwstadium.com. If you are seeking a refund, please do not supply your credit/debit card details in the email; the refund can be processed automatically. Alternatively, please state if you wish to exchange your tickets for a like-for-like seat for the fixture against Leeds Rhinos on Friday 17th April. If you do not have access to email, please follow the steps as below for cash refunds.

If you paid for your tickets via cash, please in the first instance call the DW Stadium Ticket Office hotline on 01942 311111 with details of your ticket and state whether you’re seeking a refund or exchange. Personal callers to the DW Stadium Ticket Office will be accepted from Tuesday 17th March, but supporters are politely requested to call where possible.

Away match tickets v Wakefield Trinity (Friday 27th March)

Should you require a refund for any tickets purchased for this fixture, please ideally follow the following order of preference for how we can most efficiently process your refund:

Post the ticket(s) to DW Stadium Ticket Office, Loire Drive, Wigan, WN5 0UH along with a note containing your name, client number and contact details, so that we can contact you by return to process your refund. Please do not enclose any credit/debit card details in the letter – this will be discussed by phone directly at the point of processing the refund.

Bring the ticket to the DW Stadium Ticket Office from Tuesday 17th March.

With the DW Stadium Ticket Office also having to process a large number of refunds for Wigan Athletic supporters in a similar situation, we kindly ask that supporters express patience in waiting for refunds to be processed, with staff working as quickly as possible to attend to the requests from every supporter in what is proving to be an unprecedented and constantly evolving situation.

Season ticket holders are advised that their tickets will remain valid for whichever date is allocated in due course to the newly-postponed Catalans Dragons home fixture.

As the home fixture with Leeds Rhinos on Friday 17th April falls beyond the current period of Super League’s suspension, supporters are still able to purchase tickets for this keenly-awaited game.

You can order your seats online at https://wigan-warriors.talent-sport.co.uk/, by phone on 01942 311111 or in person at the DW Stadium Ticket Office.

the bigger worry about this is some of the clubs without a rich owner footing losses.

how are Salford/Wakefield/Cas/hull kr going to cope without ticket sales. i imagine Wigan/Leeds/Saints/Warrington/Hull are going to struggle as well but this could cause havoic with alot of peoples lives.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.
