Wigan Warriors' Jackson Hastings plays down rumours linking him with a return to the NRL

Post by josie andrews » Tue Jun 16, 2020 7:07 pm

New Zealand Warriors and Canterbury Bulldogs have both been linked with moves for Super League's reigning Man of Steel

It's certainly not unusual to see reports linking Super League's finest players with a move to the NRL - and sometimes they happen.

Most recently, the game in the northern hemisphere lost St Helens and England prop Luke Thompson to the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Trent Merrin spent the best part of 2019 insisting he was at Leeds to stay, only to return to the NRL for family reasons at the conclusion of last season.

Jackson Hastings is the latest Super League star to be linked with a move Down Under.

The reigning Man of Steel, who is contracted to Wigan Warriors until the end of next season, has an NRL release clause in his contract which allows the star playmaker to leave should an opportunity arise.

Reports suggest the New Zealand Warriors and Thompson's new club Canterbury are interested.

When I spoke to Hastings, however, he insisted it was news to him.

“ To be honest with you, I personally haven't heard or received anything," Hastings told Sky Sports. "My manager could be a different story, but he's yet to be in touch with me if he has.

"So yeah, it was a bit of a surprise reading it. My manager may know more, but we haven't spoken for a while.

"As I said, it was news to me!"

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage.

Nailed on, Should never have signed the Larrikin in the first place, Why can't we be like Saints and make astute signings

Me too! Salford game away last time out for me! And still at least up to 30th June!

Not too bothered about the rumour. He is a good player so naturally others will come looking (as we did to Salford). Bloke seems none too urgent to return to Aus and I get the feeling that certain journo's appear obsessed in causing mischief surrounding this guy
I'm a better fan than you
Because I don't "Boo"!!!

Yes I bloody know transfer fees do not count on the salary cap for those illiterates that need it explaining to them because they assume everyone is as thick as they are

Their is a slight feeling that he craves attention
Tend to agree and its got to the stage where its considerably disrespectful to both the club and fans! Seems to be a different article/source almost every month! Whether Jackson encourages this attention or not, seems to take him time to quell the rumour mill!

Personally, I think there is right way to go about this and playing the media game and enticing doubt every other month or so about his future (openly) isn't the way to go about it!

Cant work out if he actually wants to be here or is considering the best option from Australia or RFU!
