Players raise £2,000 for charity with 48km run

Post by josie andrews »

Three young Super League players raises nearly £2,000 for a by completing their 48 kilometre in 48 hour challenge for The Nick Smith Foundation.

Wigan Warriors duo Amir Bourouh and Morgan Smithies, both 19, and Warrington Wolves’ Riley Dean, 18, ran the distance around Scammonden Reservoir on Monday and Tuesday.

They grew up playing with Siddal ARLFC in Halifax – the leading amateur club where Nick ‘Smudger’ Smith was captain for many years. Smith died in December 2017 from motor neurone disease at the age of just 38 and they wanted to raise money for the charity set up in his name.

Smithies enjoyed a stunning breakthrough campaign last year, and even set the record for most tackles in a Super League game – with 72.

Fellow Yorkshireman Bourouh, a hooker, was one of several academy products to also make their debut under Adrian Lam last season.

They can still be sponsored by visiting www.nicksmithfoundation.org.uk/48

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I rather like the size of the Warrington lad myself, sign him up.
