One part is victim of own success with youth squad, but there’s something else to it!
but Bradford were pulled apart, Hape, Paul, Leslie, Anderson, Peacock, Radford were all taken from them from other clubs/sports
You can pinpoint that to Leeds for that (and some stupidity to the point of recklessness from the Bulls)

Yes I bloody know transfer fees do not count on the salary cap for those illiterates that need it explaining to them because they assume everyone is as thick as they are

The issue is league wide BUT i do think Wigan compound the issue by making it clear they will welcome back any player leaving if they chose to leave. We effectively offer a safety net for players which surely makes them feel more comfortable in taking a punt in the NRL i dont know any other club that does this.

I think we also feel the issue badly because at the end of the day we are a top draw team which means the players who come here or developed here and in the biggest shop window. If youre a salford fan and you get a top player in the club you milk the experience for all its worth knowing that you wont be able to keep them. We as a fan base feel like we should be able to keep them so feel aggrieved when they dont stay.

I dont think its a problem that Rugby League can solve, because its a small time sport run by people with a vested interest in it staying a small time sport. Other sports like Union and NRL have kicked on with the times we havent we are 3rd level sport anyone who makes it in superleague would be mad not to take the offers that will inevitably come in

If a player leaves they should stay left,to me this is the greatest club in the world and you leave it at your peril but for some reason Lenegan seems to think that by offering a way back when things go wrong is the right way,it isn’t and I do t care who you are.

The child like comments of “well I do t want to see player x in a Leeds (for instance) shirt is purine once a player goes he goes with my good wishes and I don’t want to see him turn out again in a Wigan shirt, you sacrifice that shirt for “lifestyle” or other such nonsense usually money is fine just don’t come back, players come and go the club is the constant and there’s not one player I’d have back frankly.

A left-field suggestion coming up.

First, acknowledge that we (RL) have always been a small fish in a big pond. Our closest competitor, RU, kept us alive for a century by remaining amateur, giving us a pool of star players to tap into. They were always far bigger than us and now we must compete with a professional sport who steal our players and coaches and have the money, media coverage, advertising, TV deals etc that we struggle for.

The best, most realistic prospect for RL is that we can survive pretty much as we are. One glimmer of light could be expansion of the Catalans/Toronto variety, but, to succeed, this may leave half a dozen British clubs competing with enough foreign teams to make the comp viable. And the rest back to semi-professional level.

So here's a suggestion for Wigan: get an owner with plenty ££££s and apply to join the NRL. Similar system to Toronto, blocks of home & away games. Post-coronavirus, airlines will be desperate for business, so get BA or Emirates, for example, as sponsors. Keep academy and reserve teams in their UK comps.

Could it work? Are you there, Dr K? And do you have enough money?

Not BA Morley.
When I was a regular flyer back and fro to Africa all passengers knew the initials soon for Bloody Awful.
Other useful names were
Sabena, such a bloody experience never again.
Alitalia, always late in take off always late in arrival.
JAT, Just about time
Quantas, I could tell you but I would be banned by Josie 😄

Haha! I thought you might have been banned already, Ian :D

I reckon one of the Arab airlines would be a perfect fit. They're into sport, fly to Aus, and have spare capacity at the moment.

It'd be brilliant for British fans - to be able to have a 4 week holiday and see 4 Wigan games! The club could market holiday packages, get sponsorship from (Thomas Cook) (delete) Hays Travel...

...and meet up with all the Wigan Academy players playing for Canberra.

Maybe we could still enter the Challenge Cup?

No worries there Morley, I have spent my life in a minority of one and Mrs B ensures that I continue to stay there but knowing that I am still right gives me the strength to continue the fight......

I wonder if the only realistic future for the game would be for the NRL effectively to take it over, and for clubs like ours to become sister clubs to NRL ones, with common ownership. Not quite a feeder club, but potentially benefiting from the greater professionalism and central resources that the NRL can call upon... By the way, I would recommend Etihad or Emirates for flights to Sydney.
