Tony Clubb has received some encouraging news on his neck injury.

A fresh scan has given him hope he may be able to play again this year – following fears his season would be ended by the problem.

The prop, who hasn’t played since the season restarted, said: “I had a halfway scan and the disc that is pressing on my spinal cord is moving, and that’s what we wanted.

“Hopefully in the next few weeks it will come off completely.

I’ve got to see a specialist on Thursday but this is what we wanted – if it hadn’t moved, it would have meant surgery and been the end of my season.”

Clubb says the injury isn’t causing him any pain or discomfort.

“I’m in training, apart from the contact, so it’s been frustrating,” said the 33-year-old.

“So hopefully, all going well, in a few weeks I can get back into it.”

Clubb – who had neck surgery in 2016 – is contracted to the end of next year. He played in Wigan’s 42-10 win at Huddersfield but missed the following two matches before the season was halted.

any injury that involves the spine is dangerous, to me that the cue to wrap up,

its not worth the risk if you have a known problem

The club needs to make the decision for him before something serious happens to him

The club needs to take it out his hands - not meaning to be cruel but he isn’t even a top player it’s not like he brings much when he plays so the idea of him risking himself so close to retirement seems stupid for him and the club

its not cruel its honest...... his best days are definitely behind him....... hes put in some good performances for us in the past...... no one wants him to get permanent damage....... he needs to do the right thing now...... maybe if he was younger the decision could be different

I'd imagine the doctors that Club and the club are working with will be the best people to advise on risks of playing on vs retirement.
