Head Coach Adrian Lam is urging his side to learn from previous defeats as they prepare to face Wakefield on Friday night.

The Betfred Super League Round 13 encounter will take place at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Friday’s opponents currently sit 11th in the table, while the Cherry and Whites sit 3rd, joined on win percentage with 1st and 2nd placed St Helens and Warrington.

Speaking to the media via Zoom link on Tuesday afternoon, the Warriors Head Coach explained that his side won’t be taking league table standings into consideration on Friday evening.

We played Hull KR a couple of weeks ago who were bottom of the table and that’s been the only defeat since post-lockdown.

“You have to make sure every week that your preparation is bang on; that you don’t disrespect opposition teams.

They’ve got some quality individuals in that side and players who I think are some of the best in the league.”

With the defeat to then 11th placed Hull KR still fresh in the memory, Lam is intending his side don’t repeat previous mistakes.

“We’ve got to make sure we get the job done and don’t slip up like a couple of weeks ago.”

Ahead of Wednesday’s 21-man squad announcement, the Papua New Guinean offered an update on the players who would and would not be in contention.

“Ben Flower is available (after serving a 2-game suspension), Liam Byrne is available too.”

There was also an update on winger Dom Manfredi, who left the field with a head knock versus Hull FC last weekend.

We are going to sit him out of this one this week, so he will be available for the Challenge Cup Semi Final next weekend.

“Because he’s out, Jake Bibby will get another opportunity.”

There was also an update on Joe Bullock, who has been sidelined with a hand injury since Round 12: “Joe [Bullock] could potentially be next week, fingers crossed.”

There was also time to offer his thoughts on the announcement that Wigan’s Round 14 fixture versus St Helens would be played behind closed doors at Salford’s AJ Bell Stadium. The fixture had been considered as a trial to allow fans back into stadia, and would have been held at the DW Stadium.

“It’s disappointing obviously, our game’s all about entertaining crowds and supporters.

“It’s not the news we are after but it’s no doubt or the right reasons and to keep the country safe. We will do whatever it takes.”

I thought they might bring kick off forward to 8pm or even 745pm.

With pubs closing at 10pm, and a good chunk of Sky's income coming from pubs, kicking out time could easily come before the match ends.
