Adrian Lam's plans for three games in nine days
Tonight’s game against Wakefield is the first of three in a nine-day window.
And given the importance of the following two – a derby with St Helens on Tuesday and a Challenge Cup semi-final with Leeds next Saturday – he needs to make sure he gets his squad rotation spot on.
Lam said: “It’s a tough one. We’re continually reassessing our schedule and our plans, the lucky thing is everyone is in the same boat.
The good thing for us is we’ve got some players coming back so we have that pressure for places.”
Lam resisted any temptations to rest frontline players for tonight’s televised match at Warrington, and believes their shock loss to Hull KR earlier this month will prevent any complacency creeping in against a Wakefield side which has yet to win since the restart.
“We played Hull KR and they were bottom, that was our only loss since we returned, so we need to make sure we don’t slip up,” he said.
“We’re seeing this weekend as an opportunity to iron out areas we want to as a side.
“ We’re defending tough and playing some decent rugby, but we think we can be better.”
Ben Flower and Liam Byrne return to the mix for tonight’s game, while Jake Bibby is set to replace Dom Manfredi (head knock) on the wing.
Meanwhile, the kick-off times for the Super League double header at the AJ Bell Stadium on September 29 have been moved forward by half an hour due to changes in pub opening hours.
The match between Salford and Warrington will kick-off at 5:30pm, followed by Wigan v St Helens at 7:45pm, with both games broadcast live on Sky Sports.
