Once again a scoreboard totally unrepresentative of the game.

Good question!

But when SoL gets back on the field we score tries for fun. Why wasn't he on sooner

Not, just in case anyone misses the sarcasm. Smith might be only 20 but surely he should be starting every game if he is fit?

who has ever said that about SoL, he use to steady the ship, that didn't happen today.

the only complaint i have about that game (other than how crap Wigan played) was how did Gale get away with so many high tackles.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Hastings thinks he's a prop . Wants to take it up the middle all the time instead of making himself available to create something . We are incapable of changing the game plan on the field when things go wrong . The number of times Hastings gets the ball on the 5th tackle and Faz on the 6th tackle defies belief.

It wasn't an awful performance from us, we were just outplayed. We didn't defend that badly, we defended well at times, but inevitably cracked under the weight of pressure from a Leeds side that completed sets well and didn't make too many errors. We weren't making errors all over the place in attack, we just couldn't punch any holes down the middle so played pretty much the entire game on the back foot, while Leeds dominated with their carries.

In the Super League game where we beat them Leeds were dominant in the pack, made lots of metres down the middle of the field, but we soaked up the pressure and then almost counter attacked - hitting them with a quick try after all that pressure. We've done that against quite a few sides this year. In these conditions we didn't seem to chance our arm. We didn't want to get expansive in attack so there was no threat from us.

Ultimately though I don't think you can blame the pack for not making the yards. We don't really have any strong carriers in the side except Bullock, who was okay but pretty much all Leeds had to cope with. Havard is a smart ball carrier and can make a difference but was off after 20 minutes. Ultimately though this is just what you get from us. Farrell, Isa, Shorrocks, Partington - they aren't blockbusting runners who can storm down the middle, so if Wigan try to play a tight game and match the other team it almost inevitably fails. See the Playoff Semi Final against Salford as evidence. A tight must win game that was played mostly down the middle and we were completely outplayed in the pack.

Leeds played the conditions perfectly, are far more dominant down the middle, and just put us under pressure and didn't let go. The only player we could bring off the bench to try to chance things was Smith. In those conditions it seems an oversight not to bring him on sooner but I doubt it would have made that much of a difference. We just had no forward dominance to match Leeds who were by far the better team.

Aside from O'Loughlin I wouldn't say anyone was dreadful or made lots of errors. Our props basically played as our props do. On a good day when we can get quick play the ball we can beat sides. When we have to slog it out down the middle they aren't effective enough. Our halves weren't effective but just look at the possession and territory we had - Gale and Lui would have been ineffective had it been us putting Leeds under that pressure.

We need to find some strong ball carriers because it seems when the games are tighter and forward dominated (as must win games tend to be) we struggle with our hard working but less effective forwards.

Makes the wholesale changes the other night look pretty dumb now, always a chance of that happening.

Agar is a good coach,he is quietly knitting a bunch of journeymen into a decent team,I’m unsure what Lam is doing if I’m honest.
