21-man squad vs Leeds

Post by josie andrews »

Adrian Lam names the Wigan Warriors 21-man squad to face Leeds Rhinos in the Coral Challenge Cup Semi Finals.

Head Coach makes 10 changes from the side that faced St Helens on Tuesday.

Leeds Rhinos vs Wigan Warriors, Saturday 3rd October, Totally Wicked Stadium, K.O. 2:30pm.

Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors 21-man squad to face Leeds Rhinos in the Coral Challenge Cup Semi Finals.

The Cherry and Whites head to St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium to take on the Yorkshire side on Saturday in what will be their 29th meeting in the historic cup competition (K.O. 2:30pm).

After making 10 changes ahead of Tuesday’s derby clash with St Helens, the Warriors Head Coach has made a further 10 ahead of the Semi Final.

Recent signing Brad Singleton misses out, however is expected to be up to speed and available within the next two weeks.

Second-row Morgan Smithies serves his sixth and final match ban received for two separate incidents during Wigan’s win over Castleford in Round 10. Learn more HERE.

Injury news

Back-rower Jack Wells is unavailable after picking up a knee injury against St Helens on Tuesday. Speaking on Wednesday, Lam provided more details of the injury.

“The medical team are saying it’s a possible MCL (medial cruciate ligament) or cartilage tear, also a kneecap dislocation.

“If it is a dislocation it could be up to three months. But we don’t know for sure until the scans come back.”

The Head Coach also indicated that both prop-forwards Tony Clubb and George Burgess could return to action from their respective neck and hip injuries within two weeks.

Winger Liam Marshall continues his long-term recovery from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament knee injury sustained during the Round 10 tie with Castleford.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Obviously deserve to replace Gildart or Hardaker haha Not a clue what people see in Hankinson. He’s ok in defence but he’s slow. I think he’s our 4 choice centre after Bibby.

Hankinson is a safe player and that’s it. He hasn’t got an X factor like Zak or olly,
Not a Wigan player if you want to be a top team.

Agree with the last couple of comments and would say that the current back 5 pick themselves

French
Manfredi and Burgess
Gildart and Hardaker

Then you have Bibby and Hankinson competing for a position as the utility back, and possibly vying for a place on the bench. Plus we have the utility of Farrell / Isa in the 2nd row who can fill in at centre if required during a game if circumstances dictate
