Hardaker: “It’s going to be a fantastic season, it’s been a long break and everyone’s raring to go.”

After an extended pre-season reaches its final weeks, Zak Hardaker believes the Warriors are ‘raring to go’ in Round 1.

Adrian Lam’s side will get things underway at Emerald Headingley Stadium on 26th March, where they’ll face Betfred Super League newcomers Leigh Centurions.

With less than a month to go until Wigan return to action, the centre explained the change in approach compared to previous seasons.

“It’s been tough, and that’s what it’s all about. The first few weeks were really tough, lots of running and skill games.

“From last year’s rule changes, they blew standard training out the water really. It’s all about quicker ruck speed, which means you need to be more agile and fitter. That showed last year.”

The 29 year-old also believes the squad has benefited from the extended pre-season.

“All the boys have been brilliant. I’ve been particularly impressed with the young ones that have come in. They are training really hard with the older boys which brings competition across the board.

“It’s going to be a fantastic season, it’s been a long break and everyone’s raring to go.”

With the season drawing ever closer, Hardaker outlined some of the teams he’s expecting to improve in 2021.

“Looking at Hull, they look really well as a squad. I’m also really interested to see how Huddersfield come on, they might be a surprise package. Castleford have signed well also and Daryl Powell will get the players working well.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
