Clubb: Excited for fans return

Post by josie andrews »

Tony Clubb discusses his expectations when fans return, pre-season preparations and a tough opener to the new Betfred Super League season.

Clubb: “The fan base will be through the roof because people are missing Rugby League.”
2021 season tickets now on sale.

Wigan Warriors prop Tony Clubb believes Rugby League attendances will soar when fans are allowed back in grounds.

The new Betfred Super League campaign gets underway behind closed doors on the 26th March, when Wigan take on Leigh Centurions at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

Plans are in place for the safe return of fans at some point during the forthcoming campaign, with Clubb expecting a huge interest in tickets.

He said: “I think once people can come back, the fan base will be through the roof because they are missing Rugby League. It has been tough without them, not having the cheers and boos, especially at the Grand Final.

“I’m also happy to see the return of the Magic Weekend, because it’s such a great concept for both fans and players.”

The 33-year-old forward says pre-season preparations have taken a step forward as the return to match action approaches, with the Warriors taking on Salford Red Devils on Sunday 14th March, in a friendly fixture at the AJ Bell Stadium (KO 4pm).

“Our training has changed, and we’re now moving into more ball playing rugby. Every player will tell you they hate pre-season because it’s not very nice, but we are all getting excited now.”

Clubb expects the Betfred Super League opener against Leigh to be a challenge they need to be ready for.

“I think it will be tough, they have beat us in the past and are always a solid team. They’ve put together a good squad, and John Duffy is a good coach, so they will be well prepared.”

The Warriors return to Rugby League action on Sunday 14th March in a pre-season friendly against Salford Red Devils.

The game will be streamed live on Wigan TV and for a limited time only there is 20% off all Wigan TV subscriptions if you add the code SALFORD20 at the checkout. Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
