FT | York City Knights 0-26 Wigan Warriors.

Wigan Warriors advance to the Betfred Challenge Cup Quarter Finals with a comfortable victory over York City Knights.

A steady performance in both attack and defence saw the Warriors cross for five tries and halt the home side from scoring any points on the night. Adrian Lam’s side will now go into the pot for the quarter final draw.

Both sides eased their way into the game, not really threatening either try line in the opening quarter to any real extent. However, it was the Warriors who grabbed the first score in the 20th minute.

Zak Hardaker was the man who broke the deadlock, gliding into the line and latching onto a right edge move to score in the corner.

After a spell of Knights pressure, it was Wigan who grabbed the second try of the game through Harry Smith.

A high kick from Jackson Hastings was well collected by Sam Halsall. What followed was a series of great offloads down the right edge that finally found the hands of Smith to score in the corner.

Scorer turned provider just four minutes later, finding Halsall to score his first senior try for the Cherry and Whites.

It took the travelling side 11 minutes to get the next score of the game after the break. A fantastic dummy from Jackson Hastings created acres of space down the left flank, that the half back galloped into. As the York backs squeezed the Aussie, he was able to find Umyla Hanley, who gathered to score his first senior try in the corner.

It wasn’t just the youngsters who added to the score sheet. Veteran prop forward Tony Clubb crossed for another in the 62nd, latching onto a Sam Powell short ball to crash over under the posts.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage.
