Twitch to cover Women’s opener

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors Women’s opening Betfred Women’s Super League game against Warrington Wolves has been selected as the first match to be shown live on Twitch in 2021.

Warrington will make their Betfred Women’s Super League debut on Sunday as the Warriors ‘host’ the Wolves at Victoria Park, 12pm kick-off.

The Wolves were promoted to the BWSL – with Huddersfield Giants – for 2020, only for the COVID-19 pandemic to force the abandonment of the entire season.

Huddersfield are not involved in this weekend’s opening round of matches, but Warrington have been handed an attractive opening fixture against Wigan, the 2018 champions.

Twitch will stream coverage of one BWSL fixture every weekend in 2021 – and as a bonus, will also cover the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup, starting with the preliminary round fixture on Sunday week (25th April) when Huddersfield will kick-off their campaign against Warrington.

All matches covered live on Twitch will be repeated on Our League on Monday night from 8pm.

The opening BWSL fixtures, all of which will be played behind closed doors, also include the champions Leeds Rhinos launching their defence against York City Knights; a derby between Featherstone Rovers and Castleford Tigers, who were the bridesmaids in 2019 with defeats against Leeds in both the BWSL Grand Final and the Challenge Cup Final; and Bradford Bulls, the inaugural BWSL champions in 2017, taking on St Helens.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
