Fan Appreciation Shirt set for launch event

Post by josie andrews »

Manufacturing of ‘thank you’ shirt for season donors close to completion

Shipping from Asia likely to mean a June arrival in the UK

Fun launch event planned post-lockdown to provide a handover opportunity

Having received an update on the progress of the sizeable Fan Appreciation Shirt order, Wigan Warriors are hoping to coincide their distribution with an exclusive launch event later this summer once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

The latest news from the manufacturer in Asia is that the delivery of the shirts by sea is likely to ensure a June arrival on British shores.

Therefore, with this coinciding with the government’s provisional plan to relax social distancing rules from 21st June, we are now making preparations for a special fun-filled event at Robin Park Arena as soon as possible after that point, which will be the first chance for fans to get their hands on their richly-deserved shirt.

The exact date, format and confirmation of the event will be dependent upon the continued success of the government’s ‘road map’, so firm details cannot be confirmed at this time, but a further update will be issued in June to ensure that fans can get the date in their diaries once everything falls into place. Further details on obtaining the shirt for those who cannot attend the event will also be available around the same time – please be aware that we are unlikely to be able to provide personal updates on the event or collection details any earlier than that point.

The Fan Appreciation Shirt has been made available exclusively to supporters who completed our response form last August to confirm that they were happy to kindly donate their 2020 season ticket credit back to the Club, with the names of the thousands of fans who made that fantastic gesture being printed into the fabric of the shirt.

Executive director Kris Radlinski is looking forward with optimism to an enjoyable summer event, explaining: “So many thousands of Wigan fans showed tremendous loyalty in sacrificing the credit they were owed from the games they didn’t see in 2020, helping the Club through a very challenging time.

“It obviously remains a hugely unusual period for professional sport as a whole and there are still unique situations that test us all on a daily basis, but with the gradual steps that the country is taking to come out of lockdown, we’re looking forward to enjoying something approaching normality later this summer.

“In aiming to create an event like this, we are looking to put together a day that unites our fanbase in a safe fashion and gives us all something to look forward to, as well as acknowledging everyone’s patience in waiting for this special commemorative shirt to arrive.

“We won’t go into particular detail at this stage, as there are still a lot of milestones for the country to reach before certain types of activities are permitted again, but it’s an event where we hope to make fans feel happy, valued and united for the important role that they played for us last season and will no doubt continue to do this summer and for many years to come.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
