Post by josie andrews »

Adrian Lam names the Wigan Warriors squad to face Wakefield this Friday.

Jackson Hastings and Willie Isa return from suspension.

Wigan Warriors v Wakefield Trinity, Fri 23rd July, DW Stadium, 7:45pm K.O.

Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors squad to face Wakefield Trinity this Friday in Round 15 of the Betfred Super League.

The two will meet at the DW Stadium, after doing battle at the Mobile Rocket Stadium last month. Adrian Lam’s men will look to build on last week’s two wins, while Wakefield will hope to get back on the horse after losing to Salford last weekend.

Team news

Wigan’s ranks are bolstered by the availability of Jackson Hastings (one-game) and Willie Isa (two-game), who have now served their respective bans.

Sam Powell is also included after missing last week’s win over Huddersfield with a failed H.I.A.

After being a late call-up last week to cover the hooker role, Amir Bourouh misses out.

Injury news

Liam Byrne is unavailable as he recovers from a rib cartilage injury. The forward also missed out on last week’s win over Huddersfield.

Morgan Smithies again misses out as he recovers from an ankle injury.

Zak Hardaker is unavailable as he continues recovery from a neck injury.

John Bateman misses out with an ankle injury picked up while on England duty in June.

Jai Field remains side-lined with a torn hamstring injury sustained during Round 1 against Leigh Centurions.

Bevan French too continues recovery from a hamstring injury, expected to keep the full back out for the remainder of the 2021 season.

Pity we haven’t rested Powell for another week to see how Oneill and Bourouh played, especially as Bourouh contract is up at the end of the season. These are perfect games to see how well they go.

You can see a Tom Davies situation coming here if we resign Powell. We will lose either Oneill or Bourouh . And we will regret it in the future. Need to play both Hanley and Halsall, let’s give them a run out. TL needs to sit this one out as well and get Hastings and Smith in the halves.

Lam said in his squad announcement that Clarke deserved to keep his place based on his last two games,if that applies to him it should also be the same for Hanley who did nothing wrong last week and also probably Halsall who also had a good game

Adrian Lam’s men welcome Trinity having lost to the Yorkshire side last time out when they met at the Mobile Rocket Stadium back in June.

Campaign so far

Wigan head into the game with nine wins from a possible 14 in the Betfred Super League, two of those wins coming last week in back-to-back fixtures against Huddersfield.

Wakefield have won just four games from a possible 14, and head into the tie having picked up only one win in their last five outings.

Team news

Sam Powell is also included this week after missing last week’s win over Huddersfield with a failed H.I.A.

Injury news

Liam Byrne is unavailable this week as he recovers from a rib cartilage injury. The forward also missed out on last week’s win over Huddersfield.

Morgan Smithies (ankle), Zak Hardaker (neck), John Bateman (ankle), Jai Field (hamstring) and Bevan French (hamstring) all remain sidelined in recovery.

Coach quotes

Speaking to the media in his weekly press conference on Tuesday, the Warriors head coach began by discussing the opposition.

“We know this side quite well having played them a lot in recent years. They do move the ball well and if we are not careful they can hurt us.

“They’ve got some of the best individuals in the comp when you break them down. We’ve got to make sure we are on our game.

We need to continue to bring that energy we’ve shown recently and keep working hard for each other and as a team.”

Match officials

The man in the middle on Friday will be Tom Grant.
