I tend to agree. He is either missing due to Covid or the Wire want to maximise his signing.

It says they’ve only named a 20 man squad & are awaiting late fitness test on a player & it’s not Williams!

George Williams out of Warrington Wolves clash with Wigan

WARRINGTON Wolves are waiting on clearance to add one more player to their squad for Wednesday's clash with Wigan Warriors.

However, that player will not be George Williams.

The Wire named only 20 players in their squad for Wednesday's game at The Halliwell Jones Stadium - their first in over three weeks after their last two fixtures were postponed due to a Covid outbreak.

Head coach Steve Price says he intends to use the final spot in the squad but that it will not be taken by England and Great Britain international half-back Williams.

Price says the former Wigan man has "a few more boxes to tick" before making his debut but said he could "come into consideration" for Sunday's trip to Leeds Rhinos.

"We’re still waiting on one more player," Price said.

"We need to wait for the authorities to get back to us to see if it’s a go or not. At the moment, there’s 20 there.

"George isn’t one of them – he won’t come into consideration. He’s still got a bit more work to do.

"The shutdown has played a part. It’s important that when we put people on the pitch, they’re fit and can sustain a level of performance which is acceptable at our club.

"He’s not really done much since he arrived so he’s got a few more boxes to tick."

There is better news on Matty Ashton, who has returned to full training after missing the past three months with an ankle ligament injury.

Price says the speedster is "very close" to a first-team comeback, even going as far as saying a return for the Leeds game is "a possibility."

The Wire boss also gave an update on scrum-half Gareth Widdop, who is sidelined with an ankle injury of his own.

"Matty’s coming along really well and is getting very close. He trained with the boys today," he said.

Lam previews Warrington

Adrian Lam looks ahead to Wigan’s Betfred Super League clash with Warrington Wolves.

Lam: “We’ve got to make sure that tactically we are on it.”

Warrington Wolves v Wigan Warriors, Wed 28th July, Halliwell Jones Stadium, 7:45pm K.O.

Adrian Lam says he’s expecting to see a very different Wigan performance than the last time they faced Warrington when the two meet this Wednesday.

The Cherry and Whites take on Warrington in the first of two fixtures this week, with Leigh Centurions visiting the DW Stadium on Sunday following Wednesday’s bout with the Primrose and Blues.

When the two last met in June, Steve Price’s men came out on top against an injury hit Warriors side.

Speaking to the media on Monday ahead of the fixture, Lam begun by discussing the opposition.

“Last time we played then we got embarrassed really. We limped into the game with injured players and little confidence.

“We will be a very different team this week and we are looking forward to it. We’ve got to make sure that tactically we are on it.

It’s one of those derby games where there’s no love lost. I’m looking forward to our team competing at a higher level than we did last time around.”

After turning in an impressive performance last week in the full back role, the head coach gave praise to the ability and commitment of Jackson Hastings.

“He’s like a teenage kid with a rugby ball in the back yard, he just wants to play, he just loves it. He’s played a number of positions for us over the last couple of years and you could probably put him up front for Man City and he’d have a go.

“We’ve had to persist with him at full back and he did that the best so far last week, setting up four tries.”

With his press conference coming shortly after the announcement of Wigan’s 21-man squad for the Round 16 tie, (Read in full HERE), Lam gave an update on the players coming back into contention.

“We’ve got both Liam Byrne and John Bateman coming into consideration. We’re gonna give John right up until kick-off to be right for this game. He’s obviously an important part of our team.

“It’s just nice to have two fresh bodies coming back in and should have another one back every week for the next few weeks.”

To be fair the smellies and cacky cas are the same. I can see the rules changing again in the next month or so as one or two particular teams play fast and loose with the game at the moment
I'm a better fan than you
Because I don't "Boo"!!!

Yes I bloody know transfer fees do not count on the salary cap for those illiterates that need it explaining to them because they assume everyone is as thick as they are
