I neither like nor dislike the player. I am just pointing out the fact he's not good enough. Is anyone going to argue his passing and running from dummy half are actually any good?

If people are happy for one of your main playmakers to be the top tackler and poor at everything else than it shouldn’t come as a surprise why the attack isn’t great. Shorrocks would never have scored his try if Powell had been on the field never seen Powell run that far in 2 years.

We have a new front row next season and with Powell there it won’t make a scrap of difference, only hope is that French is there to help the attack. But without Hastings he might not be as effective. The future should be Oneill and Bourouh as Powell’s dummy and pass the other way is pathetic.

Anyone who watched Saints last night would have seen what the hookers role is about. We’ve not had that since McIlorum.

He’s having a poor season Powell but it doesn’t make him a poor player, much in the same way that him having a superb season last year didn’t make him the best in the league.

He needs to improve, there’s no doubt about that and a club like Wigan should always have all their players on their toes. Nobody should be guaranteed a spot and if Bourouh/O’Neill play better, then they should get a bigger share of the minutes. Going OTT calling Powell not good enough to play for Wigan or making out he’s the main reason for our poor attack isn’t right though. He’s out of form but he’s absolutely good enough when at his best and hopefully he can find that soon. If not, Lam needs to be ruthless and pick on form.

Powell,s biggest problem is how slow he is. That is not going to improve.
His lack of pace or variation from dummy half is killing our attack. The opposing defenders dont have to worry about what he is going to do, they already know. Everything is painfully laboured.
I,m sorry, but in todays game a hooker needs to offer a lot more than just a tackler.

Agreed.

Powell is having a very poor season yet he had improved, perhaps the only one one to have improved under Lams “coaching”last season and as such because he’s in such wretched form he should be dropped and as said above the hooking role,as any role should be picked on form.

The thing is Powell isn't a hooker, he's only been put there as there was nobody else.

When he came back on the field Sunday, he was playing stand off. I thought he looked quite good and was directing play and passing well.

I do actually feel for him, he's way to slow for hooker or half, but not big enough to go in the pack.

He's played over 200 games for Wigan, majority being at hooker.

He is now a hooker on that basis.

Did you count the 694 tackles .Leading tackler by133?(Superleague Official site).Does that she’d anymore light on the subject?
So what? That’s all he’s good at. He can’t pass to save his life, is so slow get the ball away he brings the opposition defence onto our attack and hardly ever runs from dummy half.

And where is it written a different hooker won’t tackle or should be the one doing so much tackling anyway? Other teams seems to manage without their number 9 being their top tackler.

He’d be fine to bring on toward the end of games to help close out a game when we were in front but there is no way he should be first choice hooker at a top club nor an 80 minute hooker.
. So you’re not impressed by 694 tackles(Boy they must be tough where you live )but did you need to be so nasty? Is that what you’re good at Dave?
