Wigan Warriors announce brilliant tribute to Rob Burrow

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors have announced their own club tribute to Rob Burrow – and it’s a brilliantly touching one.

Burrow was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) back in December 2019 and has, alongside his father Geoff and friend Kevin Sinfield, played a major role in raising awareness of the disease.

Earlier this week, Sinfield completed a remarkable 101 miles in 24 hours, raising millions in the process with Burrow and Sinfield uniting the whole of rugby league in admiration.

Now, Wigan have given Burrow their own piece of memorabilia at Robin Park Arena – Wigan’s training centre – with an image of Sinfield embracing Burrow when the two played together at the Leeds Rhinos with the caption: “The best teammates care”.

It’s yet another example of the sport coming together to honour Burrow, whose autobiography has been nominated for Sports Book of the Year.

Burrow was one of the most successful players in Super League history, having won a total of 8 Super League Grand Finals, two Challenge Cups, been named to the Super League Dream Team on three occasions and won the Harry Sunderland Trophy – for the man-of-the-match in the Super League Grand Final – twice.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
