Matt Peet will lead Wigan Warriors next season and he has a squad which is largely committed beyond the end of 2022 already.

All six of their new signings in the off-season were given identical-length contracts of two years with the option for a third, with only John Bateman and Harry Smith confirmed to be in place for another three years.

Among the crop yet to extend beyond next year are some big names through, including Liam Farrell and almost all of the Warriors spine in Jai Field, Bevan French, Zak Hardaker, Thomas Leuluai and Sam Powell.

Here’s when every senior player’s contract is set to expire…

2022

Jake Bibby, Liam Farrell, Jai Field, Bevan French, Zak Hardaker (option until 2023), Ethan Havard (option until 2023), Thomas Leuluai, Sam Powell.

2023

Hope next season is when Powell departs, It would be nice to see what a real Hooker can do on the pitch in Cherry n White

Have a funny feeling a few will be eating there words regarding Powell this season meds. A lot of coaches see something in him.

Yet none can get whatever it is they see out of him

The constant Powell bashing is tiresome yes he was terrible last year but the “I’m playing shite this year” club at Wigan had more than a few members to single him out is as I say tiresome,you know I’ll make a prediction he will be here at Wigan till he retires.

I think there is a tendency to miss the point when it comes to Powell. I think he plays to the best of his potential, on the whole. It isn’t his form, it is his talent. He is a tackling hooker. The one thing we don’t need as a team is another tackler. If we had Tomkins at 1, Green at 6, Lam at 7 and Faz at 13, Powell would be fine. It’s when we have no play makers in the squad other than potentially Smith and hopefully Cust that we simply can’t afford someone who offers zero attacking threat. It might be annoying for him to be singled out, but it is for being the player he is rather than a lack of form.

Lower championship level at best, If he wasn't 3rd or 4th man in on the tackle so often his tackle stats would show his real level

Last season almost every player under performed. Powell is always being singled out which I don't is very fair at all.

The most striking example was Bateman. Comparing his game last year to his last season before leaving for Canberra showed the extent of the decline in him and the squad. Also the fact that in Shaun Wane's last game in 2018 was winning the Grand Final. Again, the difference between 2018 and last season is dramatic.

The damage Lam did cannot be under estimated.
