New signings Cade Cust and Kaide Ellis could be set to make their first appearance in Cherry & White alongside Patrick Mago and Abbas Miski who featured and scored against Newcastle.

Iain Thornley also returns to the frame for Wigan, named in the squad along with Academy products Zach Eckersley and Junior Nsemba who impressed last weekend and could feature again.

Warrington Wolves vs Wigan Warriors squads

TOBY King and Jack Hughes are both absent from the Warrington Wolves squad to face Wigan Warriors in Stefan Ratchford's Testimonial match.

King is understood to have suffered an injury in training although the severity of it is currently unclear.

Skipper Hughes was always likely to miss the game as he aims to recover from wrist surgery in time for the Super League opener against Leeds Rhinos on February 12.

Head coach Daryl Powell has named a strong 20-mansquad, with new signings Peter Mata'utia, Oliver Holmes and Joe Bullock set for their first run-outs as Wire players.

Fellow new addition Billy Magoulias is ruled out having undergone ankle surgery last week.

Wire squad: Matty Ashton, Joe Bullock, Josh Charnley, Daryl Clark, Jason Clark, Mike Cooper, Ben Currie, Matt Davis, Riley Dean, Oliver Holmes, Ellis Longstaff, Peter Mata'utia, Robbie Mulhern, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford, Josh Thewlis, Danny Walker, Gareth Widdop, George Williams, Connor Wrench

Wigan have also named a strong squad, with new signings Cade Cust and Kaide Ellis both included.

Wigan squad: Jake Bibby, Iain Thornley, Liam Marshall, Cade Cust, Thomas Leuluai, Brad Singleton, Sam Powell, Patrick Mago, Willie Isa, Liam Farrell, John Bateman, Morgan Smithies, Kaide Ellis, Harry Smith, Oliver Partington, Liam Byrne, Kai Pearce-Paul, Joe Shorrocks, Jai Field, Abbas Miski, Sam Halsall, Umyla Hanley, Brad O'Neill, Zach Eckersley, Junior Nsemba

Only seems to be French and Hardaker missing.
No surprises with the rest of the squad.
Good to see Eckersley and Nsemba included after both had good games v Newcastle.
Looks like the Peet and the coaching team have set their stall out early, in that, play well in the reserves and that is the pathway to the first team squad.

That idea falls over with Hanley however after last Sunday.

Any more info on Nsemba? I know he came from St Jude's, but how old is he? Weight?

If he's 18 or 19 with potential, then letting him mix with the senior players for a friendly is good, but it's going to be 2 or 3 years before we can expect to see him regularly, surely?

If you're good enough, you're young enough (if that's the correct saying ?)

Yeah, that sounds more like it, ta.

But a 19year old shouldn't be hidden away if there's a talent to be developed. We've seen much younger than that been given the opportunities over the years.

I think playing youth for me depends on 2 things

1) Genetics - Andy Farrell at 18 was a monster of a man stronger than most his elders, some are just genetically gifted that way and develop early, these players are less risk to play earlier as they are already ahead on that curve

2) Senior Shields - you want to be playing youth in a blended approach with senior players around them to protect them not just physically but mentally. Problem last year we were playing too many young players so when things go wrong they don't know where to turn

but as long as those things are taken into account age shouldn't be a barrier for any player
