Sam halsall
Sam halsall
After watching the Newcastle and widnes game last night it was quite obvious that Sam is a quality player and this was endorsed by both the commentators,Mike as well showed up quite well, and the other winger who scored played very well. When are we going to see these players in our team as I feel that our outside backs are a little flat at this moment in time,a change would be welcome and fresh blood should be tried.
Re: Sam halsall
Huge gulf in class between the Championship and Super League. I totally agree these young players are doing well in the Championship when they get a shot, however if any of them were currently throw into the Wigan team it weakens it severely. Which we are not in a position to do, this season still has certain shades of last for me, our position in the table is almost false and papering over a lot of cracks, we've played 1 top team and got absolutely slapped off them. We have also won a few close games that shouldn't of been close, Harry Smith getting us out of the mud in two of them, but he is a prime example for me, yes he kicked the goals to win us the games, but in my opinion if we had a better half playing than Harry then we would of been 10+ points ahead in both of those games. He's saved us twice but also holds us back, the same would happen if we threw any of the youngsters into the side at the moment.

Huddersfield are a top team this year
Hull have had a good start to the season
Beating these two shows more than beating wire and Leeds this year.
Catalan beat us yes but they are not the same team as last year so far.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

I see no harm in putting Halsall in the first team every now and again. You need to see how he handles it and it’s the best way to get experience.Dan2266 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 11:04 am Huge gulf in class between the Championship and Super League. Also he’s an out and out centre which we are short of

I don't mind the younger players getting experience elsewhere, but when we are starting games with Isa at centre then we need to be playing Halsall. I would also be playing Miski on the wing as Bibby just hasn't shown anything to keep him in the team.

There's an indefinable something that catches you when you see some players for the first time.
Sometimes, as with Sam, you just know that this might be someone extra special. I felt a lesser something when I first saw George Williams and Olly Gildart, also KPP but they still looked like the real deal and stood out as talents to be valued.
I felt the same when I first saw Sam Halsall. I don't know quite what it is but players look as if they have a football brain; they understand what's needed of them and they are not afraid to try something original while carrying out the basics.
There are some players who look flashy - some who work hard but it's the ones with that little bit extra who excite crowds. I hope Sam gets his chance and I'm sure he won't let anyone down.

I agree with this sentiment and often think the same thing about certain players myself. They have that "something" even when they are young players. If you are good enough, you are old enough. Some players just look the part as soon as they step onto the pitch. Another player who falls into this category is IMO Harvard which sets him apart from the other young props.Southern Softy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 1:34 pm There's an indefinable something that catches you when you see some players for the first time.

I hope Halsall starts to get more first team opportunities. We only have Thornley who is a recognised centre and none of the other compromises including KPP don't look the part in that position ( I also would not like KPP to lose confidence playing out of position which is what I reckon happened to Hughes a few years ago when the club tried to turn another back row forward into a centre) .

Re: Sam halsall
I don't disagee totally with this but it does cut both ways, ie a young player in the Championship wouldn't get the same kind of quality ball from their Championship team mates? I think some are suggesting that if the need arises then we'd be better off using an inexperienced specialist rather than an experienced player out of position.Huge gulf in class between the Championship and Super League.
