Peet previews Toulouse

Post by josie andrews »

Matt Peet gives his pre-match thoughts as Wigan welcome Toulouse to the DW Stadium for the first time.

Peet: “There’s a great sense of excitement this week, particularly being back at the DW Stadium with our fans.”

Wigan Warriors v Toulouse Olympique, Friday 24th June, 8pm K.O.

Wigan welcome Toulouse to the DW Stadium this Friday as the Warriors return home for the first time since April and the Club celebrate Armed Forces Day.

Peet started by acknowledging the Armed Forces Day occasion by the Club: “It’s something we talk about a lot and we have maximum respect for anyone involved in the Armed Forces, protecting our Country. Opportunities like this to say thank you and celebrate all the good people and work that goes on, to bring everyone together and the town – it’s special.”

The game also marks a return to the DW Stadium, where the Warriors are currently unbeaten in 2022: “There’s a great sense of excitement this week, particularly being back at the DW Stadium with our fans. It’s felt like a long time and the lads do miss it. It’s been a happy venue for us so far this year, we’ve played pretty well at home, the fans have been fantastic and the support has been noted on our travels. At the away grounds it has been unbelievable so to come home and play in front of a healthy crowd, we’re really looking forward to it.”

Speaking on this week’s opposition, Peet said: “They don’t tend to lose by many points, which we found out. As they get more pressure on them to get wins, I think they’ll become more dangerous so we have a lot of respect for Sylvain and his team. We were lucky to escape the game over there and we know they’ve strengthened since then, we know it’ll be game on – they come out of a break as well so I would imagine they’ve trained hard.”

He added: “They’ve got the game to trouble everyone – a good pack, good kicking game. They’ve not won as many games as they would’ve like but they’ve competed and we’re expecting an intense start to the game and hopefully we can bring the best of ourselves this week.”

Matt Peet also confirmed that Kai Pearce-Paul will return to the squad this week after being sidelined since picking up an injury on 25th March in the Challenge Cup Sixth Round against Salford: “Kai is in the mix this week, he looks ready, looks fit and he’s trained so hard. He seems like he’s in the shape of his life which is exciting for us going into this twelve week block.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
