Post by josie andrews »

Matt Peet gives his thoughts as the Club celebrate Armed Forces Day at Robin Park Arena.

Peet: “Opportunities like this to say thank you and celebrate all the good people and work that goes on,
bring everyone together and the town – it’s special.”

Join us for Armed Forces Day at the DW Stadium on Friday 24th June as Wigan Warriors take on Toulouse Olympique in Round 16 of the Betfred Super League.

Speaking on the day, Peet said: “What those people do is on a different level, people make comparisons between the military and sport and we can certainly learn a lot from the way they go about their business as far as the sacrifices they make and putting other people first.

“It’s something we talk about a lot and we have maximum respect for anyone involved in the Armed Forces, protecting our Country. Opportunities like this to say thank you and celebrate all the good people and work that goes on, bring everyone together and the town – it’s special.”

As part of the celebrations, fans can head down early as The Army take on The Police in a friendly match on the Robin Park Arena pitch from 6pm.

Peet added: “We have a lot of connections and we talk a lot about how we can try and replicate what the military and the armed forces do well. Mostly it’s about sacrifice and putting other people before yourself. It’s on a completely different level when you talk about putting your life at risk and spending so much time away from your family, so there’s a lot of admiration in the Club for the Armed Forces and with it comes a little bit of an occasion for spectators as well.”

There are plenty more things going on around the ground for Armed Forces Day, in addition to the friendly game, members of the Armed Forces will be present as well as The Reeva Programme who provide training assistance dogs for Veterans with mental health difficulties. Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
