Post by josie andrews »

Six young Warriors have been selected for the final of this year’s three-match Academy Origin series at Wakefield on Sunday 24 July (K.O. 5pm).

Jacob Douglas, Zach Eckersley, Harvie Hill, Junior Nsemba and Max Wood have all been selected in the Lancashire Squad with Wigan’s Ellis Hobson also selected for the Yorkshire squad as Lancashire take in a 2-0 lead into the final game.

Paul Anderson, Head of England Pathways, brings St Helens hooker Ciaran Nolan, Warrington Wolves centre Zac Bardsley Rowe and Leeds Rhinos half-back Jack Sinfield into a 21-player Lancashire squad that holds an unassailable 2-0 lead in this year’s three-match series. There are Yorkshire call ups for Wakefield Trinity Oliver Pratt, and Leeds Rhinos pair Bailey Aldridge and Max Simpson, as the White Rose county bids to avoid a series whitewash.

Lancashire 21 player squad:
Ellis Archer, McKenzie Buckley (both St Helens), Jack Darbyshire (Warrington Wolves), George Delaney, Kalan Devine (both St Helens), Jacob Douglas, Zach Eckersley (both Wigan Warriors), Ben Hartill, Leon Hayes (both Warrington Wolves), Harvie Hill (Wigan Warriors), Ben Lane, Ciaran Nolan (both St Helens), Richards Nsemba (Wigan Warriors), Jamie Reddecliff, Zac Bardsley Rowe (both Warrington Wolves), Jack Sinfield (Leeds Rhinos), Jake Thewlis, Nolan Tupea (both Warrington Wolves), Jon Vaughan, Leunbou Bardyell Wells (both St Helens), Max Wood (Wigan Warriors).

Academy Origin returned this year to its three-match format following the enforced cancellation of the entire 2020 programme and a Covid-curtailed 2021. Lancashire won the first game 56-34 at Widnes and the second at Salford 38-20.

Academy Origin III follows Wakefield Trinity’s home match against St Helens, which kicks off at 3pm on Sunday 24 July. Tickets are available online via the Wakefield Trinity website.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
