Peet previews Leeds

Post by josie andrews »

Matt Peet gave his thought as the Warriors prepare to travel to Leeds in Betfred Super League on Thursday.

Peet: “It always feels like a big game when you go there.”

Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors, Thursday 21st July, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet gave his thoughts ahead of the Warriors trip to Leeds on Thursday evening in Round 20 of Betfred Super League.

On this week’s opposition, he said: “There’s a lot of exciting players across their squad, the venue itself is one of the great Rugby League venues and with a new coach that hasn’t had that many games in front of the home fans – we’re under no illusions of the test that awaits us.”

Peet also made mention of the togetherness within the squad at the moment: “It’s important that we don’t take that for granted, all those little wins, the celebrations. In the first minute where Willie [Isa] makes that great contact, there’s some things where it’s important that you recognise so that they stay and you can build on them. The togetherness of the squad and the fans is great at the moment, it’s important that we build on that.”

Thursday’s game is also part of a double-header with the Warriors Women facing Leeds Rhinos Women prior to the first team game (5:30pm): “Any time that we get the chance to give the ladies game the profile it deserves, it’s important. I can speak for the Wigan girls but I know it’s across Super League, I know how hard the team, the volunteers and coaching staff around them work tirelessly. They’re held in a lot of respect by the first team here at Wigan, we have a lot of time for how hard the ladies and the coaches work, hopefully Thursday night is a chance for them to enjoy it.”

Finally, the Head Coach encouraged the fans to travel in their numbers once more: “Hopefully as many Wiganers can make the trip as possible, it does help and it’s valued by the team but I think regardless you know it’s going to be an outstanding atmosphere at Headingley. The Leeds fans are incredible and the staff behind the scenes at Headingley do a great job, it always feels like a big game when you go there.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
