Briers leaves for Brisbane end of this season

Post by endoman »

"Wigan Warriors can confirm that Assistant Coach Lee Briers will sadly leave the Club at the end of the 2022 season to take up an opportunity in the NRL with the Brisbane Broncos. "

this will be a huge loss for us IMHO. He's had a great impact in his short time. Hope we find a top class replacement, good luck to him down under, a great opportunity for him.

Well that lasted long, Just as we are building something special the exodus starts, Why are Lenners and Radders so incapable of keeping hold of much needed players and staff, yet manage to give super hooker a job for life?

Hopefully the club will replace him with someone who is equally as talented as a coach and not use it as an opportunity to move Leulaui into that position. Nothing against TL, but he needs to learn his trade first as a senior coach.

Huge blow this, can’t underestimate the impact he’s had fresh outlook and all that, they have to look outside the club for his replacement.

We are simply not capable of keeping holding of assets. If we’d have had Woolf as coach we’d have lost him after his first year

Why do people automatically take it as its the clubs fault?

Maybe just maybe this was fully Briers choice.

Warriors Executive Director, Kris Radlinski, said: “Lee came to see myself and Matt a few days ago in a fairly emotional state. He said that a dream move to Australia has come up for him and he feels as though he can’t turn it down. In our original meeting with him many months ago, he stated that the NRL was a dream and we knew that if an opportunity came up, we wouldn’t stand in his way.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Tommy was earmarked years ago.

I think the problem is we are still the biggest name in the game over here so people look to our players/staff along with the likes of saints and leeds.

I think the difference is we have proven we will not stand in anyone's way if they want to leave or put up any fight so we've made ourselves vulnerable to raids

And to the second point its easier to keep an asset thats in low demand

Can't pay or wont pay. I am concerned that we now cannot keep hold of our juniors and that sends out a very poor message!
