Cooper: Great to be here

Post by josie andrews »

Mike Cooper reflected on his first few weeks as a Warriors whilst looking ahead to Sunday’s game against Wakefield.

Cooper: “I’ve loved every minute of it so far and I’m excited about what the future holds.”

Mike Cooper said ‘there is a lot more to come yet’ as he gives his thoughts after his first few weeks with the Warriors.

“It’s been great,” he said, “everyone has made me feel really welcome and I’m happy here. All the players, staff, I can’t speak highly enough of everyone so it’s great to be here and great to be a part of the Club.

“I do my job as best as I can for the team and I want to keep improving so I think I’ve made a decent start, but I feel I’ve got a lot more to come yet.”

On slotting straight into the team, he added: “Yeah that’s credit to everyone here really, my job is quite simple really – get us forward and defend hard so that’s what I’ve been concentrating on. I’ve loved every minute of it so far and I’m excited about what the future holds.”

Cooper came up against his former side Warrington on Friday night, speaking on the reaction from the team following the win he said: “It was really positive; we just kept chipping away at the game. We knew that Warrington would come out pretty hard and I thought the game changed a little bit, we started well and came back into it at the back end of the first half but if we just stuck to the plan, stuck to our process then we’d come out on top in the end. We did that, the scoreline was probably a little bit flattering towards the back end of the game but I think we deserved the win.”

On this week’s opposition, Wakefield, he said: “They’re fighting for their lives and it’s always a tough place to go and play there. The changing rooms and the field are a bit different to what you’re used to, the crowd is on top of you but it’s great, it’s old school so we’ll go there and do our best to get the job done.”

Finally, Cooper spoke highly of Monday’s open training session, in his first opportunity to meet a large number of fans: “Everyone that I have met and that have introduced themselves to me has been nice and friendly so I’m looking forward to seeing many more people there and that support definitely helps.

“It was great, everyone was coming over and shaking my hand and welcoming me to the Club. It’s all really positive and you see by the numbers here today how much the Clubs is engaging with the community, there must have been over 400 kids here today coming to join in training, getting pictures and autographs so it shows you the power and presence that the Club has got in the Community and it’s important that we do well for them and it’s important that they come and support us so it works both ways.”

He’s a terrific signing. It was great business to pounce on him because Powell can’t man manage.

I was a little surprised by the Boo's he was getting from the Wire fans.

By all accounts he didnt want to leave and was a fans favourite, just found it odd.

Think it upset him a bit too, surely the fans read what Powell said about ‘wanting rid straight away’!!
