Just put it on in the team news.

Just seen that. Do we have any idea how far TL, Thornley, Powell and Havard are in their recovery processes?

Think that news either comes out later today or tomorrow…. Hopefully 😊

I wouldn’t be surprised if Smith is a doubt this week, it looked like he hurt his ankle pretty badly (was unable to attempt to convert the final try and passed the cone to Jai) after a challenge from Tualiage on Sunday who subsequently got a 3 match ban for it.

Shorrocks put something on Instagram earlier and he was sporting some pretty heavy icing.

Nothing was said about Harry’s injury this evening but, Matt Peet said that Smithies won’t play on Friday as they want him fully fit for the Saints game & don’t want to risk him. Tommy, Sam & Ethan are looking at the Catalan game.

Bateman will play on Friday as he (Peet) will be glad to get rid of him being next to him watching the game. He’s also a bad spectator watching training!

Wigan could receive triple injury boost for Toulouse clash ahead of hectic fixture period

There's good news on the injury front for Matt Peet.

Wigan Warriors could receive a triple boost on the injury front for Friday night's meeting with Toulouse Olympique. Wigan take on Super League's bottom side as they look to take another significant step towards a top-two finish ahead of the play-offs.

And they will receive a significant shot in the arm on the injury front for that game, with as many as three key forwards set to return. John Bateman will definitely feature after overcoming a rib injury to take his place in Matt Peet's 21-man squad, while Liam Farrell, who wasn't risked during last week's defeat at Wakefield, is also fit.

Morgan Smithies, who pulled out in the warm-up at Wakefield last Sunday, is also in contention and will be monitored throughout the coming days. "He's in the squad and we're checking him tomorrow," Peet said, before adding: "We won't push him if there's any doubt."

On Bateman's return, Peet said: "It's a timely boost. He's worked very hard and he's been dying to play for a while now. He's looking great in training, he brings that leadership to us as well."

Peet said that with such a hectic run of fixtures on the horizon, every decision they make such as delaying Farrell's return last week, and being cautious with Smithies, is with the period of four games in barely over two weeks in mind.

We've been prepared for that for a long time now," the Warriors coach said. "We knew it was coming. Our squad decisions like holding Liam back, not rushing Morgan, bringing James (McDonnell) back and getting him playing have all been part of that."

Injury update

17 August 2022

In partnership with Blindspot Global, we bring you the latest injury news from Robin Park Arena.
Matt Peet gives updates on outstanding injuries in the squad.

Matt Peet has provided an injury update as John Bateman returns to the squad for the first time since suffering a broken rib at Magic Weekend five weeks ago.

Matt Peet confirmed that both John Bateman and Liam Farrell would be back in contention ahead of Friday’s game against Toulouse. Bateman has been sidelined since suffering a broken rib against St Helens at Magic Weekend, whilst Farrell has been held back with a calf strain.

Morgan Smithies was a late withdrawal against Wakefield on Sunday, Peet said he is back in contention this week: “He has a chance, we’ll make that call tomorrow but he won’t be rushed or pushed. It’s not worth the risk, to pull a calf at this time of year would be devastating for us so we’ll look after him and everybody else.”

Peet also provided an update on Club captain Tommy Leuluai and Sam Powell: “We’re getting towards the end of the season now so it’s getting closer where we’ll have to make a call on both of them. They’re both working really hard, I mentioned last week about the work Tommy has been doing at St George’s and every time I walk past Sam Powell he has a different contraption on, he’s never away from the training ground which is what we expect from him and everyone else.”
